Chill... I have my own 12 inch iPad Pro that I can actually read the font w/out glasses.
I'm just passing on the latest issues with the App Store that others asked about on his thread. We all Appreciate your concern but many want to load apps regardless... and it's not SOP. |

The scabcab pilots get the Apple Store on their iPads because the Company trusts them. The Striker-wanna-be's don't because the company doesn't trust them. True. LOL

LCAs and SCs get full access too from what I've heard...

I am bemused by all the bleating and flying spittle regarding the ipad. There is a phenomenal amount of "stuff" on the web pertaining to flying, weather, travel, maps, cities, diet, exercise, etc that is germane to our occupation yet completely benign. Do guys really think that there's a group of sleuths in Willis pouring over this nonsense? And, that they're ready to pounce on the reckless offenders? Has anyone really gotten in hot water for reasonable (but not necessarily company use) of the ipad? I'm not talking material obviously beyond the edge of decorum, just oh hell, Yelp? Radar Now, Intellicast, SurfCam, Kindle, eBay, Pandora, CigarBar Finder, etc etc? Some guys are truly afraid of Mother and apparently, their own shadow.
I carry my own machine and use it for 99 percent of my personal surfing, but occasionally I act impetuously and veer way off the reservation and I use theirs. Who really cares and why the need to lecture the rest of us ad nauseam? And for what its worth, just this week I asked about this very issue with a guy who has spent a lot of time in the Flight Office. He laughed and said there isn't the manpower for such trivial pursuit. They have far stinkier fish to fry. http://www.lileks.com/institute/comi...st/caspar1.jpg |

Actually they removed the App Store permanently... that back door doesn't work anymore where it pops up for 30 secs. If you find a work around please share.

Who cares if they snoop. What kind of stuff do you have on your personal iPad? I guess if you think you might get fired, then you should probably have your stuff backed up. You know, in case they ask for your badge and your iPad one morning.
You are most likely junior to me, so doesn't really matter much to me either way. In fact, all the new hires should be encouraging you to use it for whatever you want....but remember, even with our new labor friendly CEO, flt office managers are still not the pilots friend. Especially in SFO. |

Remember Unimatic E-notes? Same thing. It's too easy for management to snoop. Same thing for company E-mail, don't use it. |

I agree, no one is monitoring the iPad specifically. However, if you get under the microscope for any other reason, they will pile on with the iPad. It's really not worth it.

Mako, respectfully, I disagree. As I said above, it won't be the iPad that gets you nailed, but it will be another nail in the coffin. Just use something else, it's easy. Phone, your own iPad, computer....and yes, people have gotten themselves in trouble over it.

All that BS aside however, I came here to see if it was just me or everyone else also having the issue. Sure enough. What I ask all of you to do is recommend the apps that you like and use (for work, because you find them helpful) to the Training Committee or Safety Committee via ALPA PDRs. I know that there is another venue, but the PDR at least gets the issue into the ALPA system and makes sure that your Reps. get your feedback as well. Leave it to UAL's great IT hacks to make sure that we can't use a UAL approved app like EZCCS on the company iPad... UFB Oly |
