No, you should not be using the company iPad for anything that is not strictly related to work. Just don't do it. It's too easy for them to snoop. Use your own assets. If you can't afford an iPad on your own, pickup up a short call, or senior man trip to pay for it. |

Though I agree with Dave Fitzergerald that you should keep personal stuff on another IPAD, there is nothing wrong on downloading useful apps on your work IPAD, if that's all you want to take with you. For example, FaceTime or Skype video apps. Or perhaps, your cable company's or NFL app, to watch shows on the road, etc.. This was useful when flying to places where they might hassle you for your extra laptop ( mexico cities, Lima...). I don't take my extra laptop to those places but need video talk capabilities. So, yes i want my own extra apps on the company IPAD. There are always guys like Dave that tell you just not to do it, but it's not ALL applicable to ALL people. |

This is mostly true. Actually, whenever there are new updates in the itunes store, you have to catch it. While it's doing the updates, you have to do a quick search to try and grab other apps to upload. For example, on the last iPad update, the iTunes app did appear and it showed 18 updates. While it was updating those 18, i downloaded several other apps i needed.

Actually they removed the App Store permanently... that back door doesn't work anymore where it pops up for 30 secs. If you find a work around please share.
Just follow the damn policy...its so easy to do so, and if you can't do that, can you follow other SOP or are you picking and choosing what to adhere to in regard to aircraft SOP as well? You all can afford a personal ipad, or as Dave Fitzgerald said, pick up a short call or SRM trip and then you can. I understand you might not want to carry two ipads, and I get that. I also know that Mexico might confiscate one of them if you do carry two in, but that's how it goes and you have to get senior enough to avoid Mexico in that case. Just follow this simple instruction so we can get past having to spend company man-hours on monitoring this and spend it on something else more important. Start throwing the spears, I'm ready to catch them. |
