Is anyone warning their buds about the hazards of taking the NURP job? I'm 2/2 with refs getting interviewed but being offered management positions. Both opted for line jobs and declined, ended up going to purple, can't blame them.

Yes. 90% of the ones I know don't want to come here. Don't want to fly night sort they always allude to. Even with a pension. They are all going and getting hired at the Big 3. And they all seem to be very happy. Especially with the hiring and growth being out of this world the past 5 years.

Of the 4 ANC 747, 3 were FQS.

Not trying to talk smack but if they are going solely by your consistently biased opinion its no wonder they wouldn't have interest in 5X. IMO, if you paid better attention you'd find the vast majority of pilots prefer the pax side of the industry and it would be surprising if everyone you know took enough time to seek out enough different perspectives to formulate an honest assessment of what the job is really like at UPS. To be frank, when I was in the job search/interviewing phase, posts like yours had zero value; fast forward to 2-3 years at the company I still find them to be nothing more than self indulgent whining. I fly a lot of day stuff, rarely fly the night sort. I'm happy. Percentage-wise I'm gaining seniority on par with my friends at the legacies. Yeah, yeah, I know Brown ain't no lover. Difference between you and me is you believe the legacies are exceptional. Do some proper research - they aren't.

FTFF,

Long time lurker, figured I'd speak up. You are absolutely right. I was offered CJOs by two legacies, flew for one, and left to come to Brown. I haven't regretted it at all. Every place has pros and cons, but UPS was and is best for me and my family. I fly way more day than I have night, and have only seen the sort about 4 times. And my seniority (now and retirement) here is better as well. We are bringing over 11% onto property this year and next. Has any other legacy done that this year? I'm not sure of the answer, but I doubt it. UPS isn't perfect, but tell me a job that is, and I'll go take it!

I agree. I'm not a sunshine blower like yourself. And yes I would go to a PAX carrier all day long over night freight at UPS. And all my peers looking who all got hired the last couple years seem to agree. Some can hold left seat already. Or wait the 10+ years here. You have been here how long? Obviously you live in the lame city of SDF and bid B Reserve. How awesome is that. I have flown years of day time flying here. West coast to SDF, sit the sort for hours, then off to PHX. 12 hour duty days all week. Wonderful. But then again, you were not here 25 years ago.

If I could like this post 100 times, I would. UPS is such a great job. We are truly the lucky out of anyone flying large aircraft. (Understandably because of many hard fought negotiated contracts) There are a lot of pilots here that were here since the beginning and because of that still have the mentality that it's still the way it was back then. But to the newcomer, it's not that way and why should the newcomer adopt that way of thinking. The newcomer is happy to be at the top carrier in the country with top tier pay, work rules and benefits. Night flying is the most relaxed flying there is minus the physiological challenges. It's what UPS does, and honestly it's not that bad. There is absolutely nothing glamorous about flying passengers. After having done both I can say without bias that this is the best flying job out there.

I have been here 7 months now and absolutely luv it!! I live in domicile (ONT) and bid RSVA 7on/7off. I average 3 call outs per week. I've had 6 and Ive also had 1, but 3/week is about average for me. Ive done mostly night sort with about 15% day stuff. I by far prefer the night, way more laid back and relaxing. Worst flight I have had so far was JFK at 10am. The funny part is while I'm flying from SDF to ONT at 0300 I hear a lot of AA, DAL and UA guys on the radio so apparently they are not.immune to those hours either.

I recognize this place was not always this way and I am very grateful to the guys/gals that fought for many years to make this job what it is, so.thank you very much. I mean that sincerely.

For those of you thinking about coming here, I have absolutely no regrets and none of my classmates do either.

Cheers,
