Quote: I passed the Hogan a week and a half ago… no call yet. I’m actually a June availability guy as well waiting for terminal leave from the Military.

hope it works out for those still waiting.
After I took the hogan it was 3 weeks to the day when they called me to schedule the zoom interview.. Good luck.

Things seem to have really picked up. Hogan on Tuesday and call to schedule interview on Wednesday. 🤯 Honored and blessed to be selected for an interview. Internal battle now to find harmony in what to do should I be fortunate to receive a CJO.

Quote: lol, currently Helicopters… I do have plenty of fixed wing turbine time though 😁. Definitely a mixed resume, but no 747 time like a lot of folks here.
Hey, that's great! Obviously they're interested in what you got. Keep up the good work, and Godspeed!

Is the 737 considered light?

If your jet has only two engines, it’s a light twin at UPS. The 73 occupies a netherworld here, too small to be mainline and too big to be a feeder. The company can use subcontractors flying 73s to prove a route’s economics for up to a year.

It's a tough call, I'm a legacy FO seriously considering making the jump. Contract talks aren't working, we're dead last in pay and work rules...Could be a 'grass is greener' scenario. I live in base right now and driving to work is nice, I don't see myself living in any of UPS's domiciles so I'd probably be a commuter.

Whats the DOH of the most junior lineholders in each base?

Quite likely you could hold a line right off the bat. I’m just north of 50% and I bid reserve, since I live in domicile. We have quite a few “career reserve” guys. I’m not sure how commutable the junior lines are on each fleet.

The deal with junior commuters is they either bid reserve which is almost always in commutable blocks or take the base trip-like lines and then OT trade / trip board drop into a more commutable schedule but often at the sacrifice of preferred days off and other things. When I was the plug I was able to trade my entire base trip line for a single, pretty cozy International which was a duty day or two less than my base trip line. Then I got displaced from it for training…life doesn’t always suck at the bottom. Other times I had to pick up extra days just to get a trade approved (I always put that extra flying on the trip board - sometimes people grab the small stuff). Other times you’re just going to have to burn a day in domicile. Once you get a bit of seniority you can start trying for VTO’s which are blank lines initially; you eventually bid on a created subset of lines from vacation people, trips dropped from training conflicts, people medicalling out, all that leftover stuff. Build a little more seniority and you can start working on preferred days off, start and end days that favor your commute, etc. Hit the halfway point of the list and you can really start playing (effectively) with conflict bidding. Move up closer to the top third and you can try bidding with training captains in hopes of getting displaced on a regular basis. Get in the top percentages and you can play all the cards: get extra days off with conflict bidding, get displaced for training, then maximize vacation rules - you’re hardly working. Anyway, don’t stress too much about bottom schedules and commuting - there’s always a way to make it work and if it doesn’t, you won’t be at the bottom very long.

Thanks for that, great explanation

Very tough indeed. Being on year 5 at SWA and cycling back to new hire while having a family, young kids, pretty good seniority, live in base… and all that goes with it is daunting, even if UPS was the dream job. Most conflicted decision I’ve had to make. I wish you luck in yours. PM if you ever need a stranger to chat this out with.
