Not many classics left. I would want that, as you will likely have to do OE and maybe consolidate before doing the EPIC differences. Could make for a drawn out process as the more conversions happen.

My understanding was that we convinced the FAA to allow new hires to be trained in the classic sim and do a quickie conversion course at the end. This freed up the Epic sim for already qualified crew members and maximized throughput.

they will just have the Captains fly the right seat if it came to it.

If I were king of the airline, I would prioritize captain training because it buys more flexibility. However, I think our management is sensitive to how Atlanta might perceive large numbers of new hires sitting at home for several months waiting for training. Stepping over dollars for pennies.

The recent upgrade C/A who flew my entire last trip as R/O on a reserve callout would like a word.

Absolutely, especially since he can afford to buy the scotch.

? My understanding is that at UPS captains assigned IRO duties get no additional pay.

This discussion is a bit comical. Most Captains I’ve flown with are a bit jealous they can’t bid IRO. Since when is it bad or is it something that deserves extra pay? Captain pay for IRO is a pretty good deal if you ask me, and one many were upset went away years ago.

To each their own, I suppose. This guy was still on high mins and was fighting to stay current on landings. He was not happy.

Sounds like extra vacation at MMG while you wait to get scheduled in the sim to me. But I don’t work here (maybe someday) and I get that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
