Poolies

A new thread for those of us who have received the "our records indicate you have completed your interview process successfully" email. I know that we won't hear anything concrete for a few more months, but any information is welcome.

Also, do any of you have class dates with other airlines? If so, what are you going to do?

Double80 12-15-2022 10:31 AM

Poolie 1 Nov 22. Couple CJOs but no class dates.

Congratulations!

I received my letter on Dec 8th. I also have a start date with another airline in Feb. Knowing that I want to be at UPS, I can't decide whether to attend, defer, or cancel.

Don't turn down an airline waiting on UPS. Once you have a UPS date then you can make a decision.

Merry Christmas!

Interviewed 11/10 and got my letter from UPS on 12/8. CJOs with Omni and SWA (no class dates yet) with availability May 1. Took the Delta AON assessment this week but I feel like I bombed it (still waiting to hear back). Withdrew from United after they invited me for an interview because I want to leave as many bridges standing as I can.

If I don’t get a class from UPS May-July I’m leaning toward starting with Omni. I really like their positive space “commute.”

CardboardCutout 12-16-2022 04:54 AM

Omni is a great place to hang out and wait for a class. Pay will allow you to squirrel something away for first year ups pay, as well.

Exactly my thoughts as well. The guy I know at Omni enjoys it. The commuting policy is very attractive.

How will you handle SWA? Withdraw or defer?

atl55 12-16-2022 11:26 AM

Interviewed October 13th and received the passed the interview email on October 18th. I currently have a good job but I am still debating if I want to go back and fly passengers.

Dont know if you have a class date with SWA yet, but I would recommend hanging out there over Omni while you wait on UPS. Omni may be easier short term, but if UPS never offers a class SWA is a better option for a career. Totally, agree with your desire to avoid burning bridges. I pulled all of my apps once UPS gave me a class date.

My thoughts are to go with whichever can offer me training in May (which is my first month of terminal military leave). If both offer May training I'll probably withdraw from SWA and go with Omni. Though I really enjoyed my time at my SWA interview and have many happy friends there.

Found out today that I didn't pass the Delta AON online assessment, so they're 3 months away at best now.

yes, that is a very good point about SWA and I suppose if UPS ends up not offering a CJO it would be a better destination for a career for sure.

Are there any poolies from the past that have never been called for a class? Or, historically speaking, has it always just been a matter of time? According to what I'm reading here on APC, some have waited as long as two years, but the call came nonetheless.

Camfo 12-20-2022 08:45 AM

Interviewed 11/1 and received the "Great News" email today (12/20). Now let the wait begin!

Unfortunately pre covid there were people in the pool for 4 or 5 years before finally getting the letter telling them they are no longer being considered. I’d guess that was exceptionally rare, but happened nonetheless.

Havent heard of that kind of thing for a long time, and hopefully that’s a practice never to return.

Thanks.

Hopefully, the current hiring environment has changed their strategy. I guess we'll see.

Don’t think so. One word, “arrogance”.

Final Interview October 5th, Congratulations e-mail October 7th. No news since then. Although it is rare it does happen. I do have first hand knowledge of one individual that was never offered a job after 2 years. he finally gave up and got on with AA. As stated before I hope this practice is not still in use.

Good Luck to us all

I had the same concerns. Look, as we discussed on the other thread, for the last few years almost everyone has been getting a class date within a few months of their pool letter. That’s what you can reasonably expect. I recall reading about 1 or 2 people who were in the pool for an exceptionally long time but that was years ago and I thought they weren’t exactly as proactive as they could have been to clear up the issue. I’ve never read of any Poolie on here dying in the pool (since this hiring wave started). And don’t forget the opposite has been true as well, guys interviewing and starting class days later. If you have a competitive resume and interview well you need not worry about these extreme outlier possibilities affecting you.

Corporate will reveal their 2023 plans for the Air District in Q1 but everyone agrees it will probably be a slow year for hiring.

When you are only hiring 20-30/month you can afford to be a bit more selective than hiring 100-200/month, even with a smaller pool to choose from. Our “advantages”, if they ever existed, are quickly eroding away. At this point the only major “advantage” to coming here is job stability and pension.

FOQA report 12-21-2022 10:13 AM

The letter states that job offers will resume once peak is over, based on candidate availability. This may seem like a silly question, but when is peak officially over?

Prolly the same day you open your presents. That said, probably depends on which holy book you ascribe to.

Early January, after we get paid to deliver all the presents, we get paid to return a bunch of them. The company literally makes money coming and going off of a lot of e-commerce. My guess is poolies will start to get some clarity on class dates by mid-January.

Yes. You have to reapply each year until you start. Your CJO still stands, but HR said that you have to resubmit the application due to the way they process new hires.

Thanks.

I assume everyone also received the email instructing us to wait until Jan 1 before updating?

McIntyreSG 12-22-2022 01:38 PM

Yup, I received same email. Sounds like we wait until after 1 Jan 23, then submit another application and the company will know we “completed the interview process successfully” in 2022.

Swimming in a couple pools

Interviewed early Dec. Got the “you’ve been successful” email 2 wks later. Then the email inviting me to reapply in Jan 23. - Thanks for starting this thread and clearing up resubmitting the app next week! — I’m also in the pool at Purple but have started w/AA and am patiently awaiting training. Not sure what I’m going to do — timing and the multitude of variables change the plan daily.

Well done, nothing more dangerous than a person with options. Good position to be in.

What's up with the Drivers Supplement?

Trucking company that started an airline. Do you have a specific question about it?

I understand the nature of UPS, but this part of the app is referred to as the "Driver and Mechanic Supplement". It wasn't part of the previous application and I'm not able to provide much information, other than my current drivers license details (which are asked for in another part of the app). I'm concerned because it wants me to provide the details of "every driving license ever held". Yikes! I don't even know if the details of my original license from 28 years ago are discoverable.

Am I overcomplicating this?

MoraleSpeed 01-01-2023 12:09 PM

I didn't have to do that part until indoc. HR told me they only needed 5 years of driving history, and I only needed to put in my current DL.
