First Round of MD Displacements Is Out
-52 Captains
-44 First Officers |
+60 Captains
+36 FOs to other fleets… |
So this creates 8 new CA’s, which opens up 8 FO positions. So this bid creates 0 open vacancies for new hires. There are people interviewing next week. I assume you only interview if you expect to hire. Where will they put new hires if there are no excess FO spots?

I know they had more than the 2 slots they used in the last class. That said, taking this job at the moment does not seem like a wise decision at all.

Thy interviewed a bunch of people in late 2022 and gave them a “congratulations you passed the interview process”. Then they just let them float in the pool until postal hiring happened over a year later. I think the hr hiring department has no clue what is happening
|
As we head into what appears to be a year of complete stagnation, I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose more guys off the bottom than off the top.

Big picture, get hired when hiring is slow, slog out the low seniority and you are now on the front end of the wave (big or ripple). Retirements will come eventually.
Life sucks here right now. However, once we have a contract attitudes are likely to swing wildly the other direction. Caveat Emptor |

I agree. It’s kinda like Warren Buffet’s advice on stock buying. If you want to be hired ahead of everyone you don’t go to the airline that just hired 10,000 of your best friends.

Caveat Emptor I am local to Louisville and was hoping the UPS interview tap would get turned on in the near term but prospects dropped after the accident and are not looking good to go up in the near term. I have a job offer with UAL so guess it’s the bird in the hand for me. |

Personally I would take sdf based UPS over commuting to UAL from sdf. I’m not quite as negative as some on this forum and I like turns that let me see my family everyday.
That being said, definitely take the UAL spot and if UPS starts hiring soon you can make a decision. Or just move to a UAL base. |
Agree. Living in base is a major factor.

SDF isn't that bad, the job becomes way easier living here. Also cheaper than any UAL domicile.

Hey brother, take the UAL job and don't look back. Even local to SDF this place is not worth it. It would suck if you took the job here and then realized it is as bad as you read then just lost seniority at a major. Best to you.
Seriously, go to United. Or do A LOT of homework about who you will be working for.... |

Yes, But we are talking SDF. SDF is the last place I would want to live the next 25 years. UAL also has the best fleet hands down. New 777’s and 787’s or 30 year old loud 757? Not even close, easy call.
Fleet composition is a low weight factor IMHO. |
I’m tied to living near SDF for the next 5 years so that my kids can graduate. I love the area but if moving makes my life simpler I’m not opposed to it then.
A commute to Chicago isn’t ideal but doesn’t sound too bad. I’m just trying to maximize quality of life. It’s time to give back to the family for this second carer. I’ll fly whatever/wherever can do that. |

They only bumped 52/137 captains this go round. I would be surprised if there is any outside hiring for this year.
Being from SDF, chances are UPS would send you to ANC simply because that’s what they do. Go to United and don’t look back, |

Always take a firm class date, and if offered a different opportunity later, you can make the decision then.
Commuting sucks IMO but ORD is probably about as easy as it gets between UAL, AA and UPS. I'm surprised this realignment isn't larger in numbers, perhaps they want to do smaller bids to manage schoolhouse throughput and "clean things up" with regards to retirements and hiring, but that's probably giving them too much strategic planning credit. Training bid probably won't drop for another 4.5-5 weeks given the realignment/displacement cycle...with training starting pretty much immediately after the training bid award comes out. |
In the meantime…sending the FQS thru schoolhouse

All you negative Nancies can quit whining…the appearance mirror is gone in SDF. All is right in the world now.

I’m doing my best to start a trend of no ties anywhere! My shirts suck, pants snag easy, we look like a s s as a pilot group, why bother with a tie?

At three in the morning I agree. Although I will advise probationary folks that it might not be worth it to walk tieless through the ASC. I do find I don’t like looking like a slob when I’m checking in or out of the hotel. That doesn’t mean I have to be wearing a tie, but I try not to be too rumpled.

I suspect more than a couple junior MD CPTs will displace to MD FO, and the next realignment/displacement, they'll take a left seat elsewhere.
I think a good portion of MD CPTs subject to displacement will go to the 747 for lifestyle or 767 for seniority purposes, though some who were on the Bus previously will go there. I think ANC/ONT/MIA will be mostly left alone in the displacement, but the bottom 10% of each seat in SDF is subject to churn. |

This drift was amusing, but what really matters is what fleet will go more junior in the left seat and which will go senior. Or…how many junior captains are going to be going back to the training center less than a year after they completed OE?

Sorry to be a BandG thread thief but sometimes I crack myself up. Anyway, personal opinion is with all the shuffling coming down the pipe short term there will be some gnashing of teeth but in February of 2027 everyone will be more or less where they are now but with a touch more seniority. New hires I think should look elsewhere.
