Seven out of 24 in the Jan 3rd class came from Atlas. They can't be too happy with brown stealing their type-rated pilots.

Congrats on the offer. But I want to emphasis that at UPS everything is firmed until about 2015zulu each day when they change their minds on things. Don't quit your job until you are sitting in class with an ID that says brown turd on it.

Trust me, I appreciate the humor. But an explanation is in order since this thread is about a Jan 16 new hire class.

The 2015 reference goes back to the furlough. UPS simply stated they could furlough 300 until the year 2015. They only got to 109, largely due to efforts of the IPA and its membership. They sent out furlough notices to at least 170, and then "cancelled" layoffs every 28 days as they realized they couldn't operate down to those numbers.

It became apparent that UPS was unable to predict their staffing needs beyond 2015z of today, yesterday, and definitely not tomorrow.

Also very important to consider. In the recent past when hiring resumed, UPS postponed a class start date a few weeks. So the advice to "Don't quit your job until you are sitting in class with an ID that says brown turd on it." does have merit.

I am sure someone can fill-in the exact dates for some of this info. I just don't have the ambition

Only at UPS where people upgrade to captain after being furloughed.

Let's make that 108 shall we?

Anybody remember how far in advance they drop the bomb on those poor guys? I don't think they even had any intel as to how long the postponement was for..just that "dont show up monday" message and wait for news.

imagine being the only one working to support a family and how scary that sh!!t felt. If I remember correctly, UPS was content at keeping them hanging until our union got involved and forced them to come up with news about their fates.

IPA at the rescue, even for dudes off property. That's how we roll.

AGREED. And that deserves an explanation too, but this better be the last !

Unfortunately during the layoffs, there was a furloughee who decided it was in his best interest to take a position in management to avoid the furlough. Whatever ?

You lose your place on the seniority list, fly to FAR limits, etc ... its well documented on this forum. Just search for NURP.

At UPS that makes you an instant Captain. It also makes you a possible SCAB, because you will be expected to fly if the IPA is on strike.
