Convair entered the contest with essentially a B-36 with swept wings and it was a pathetic second to the BUF. Now almost 60yrs later it is easy to see how revolutionary the BUF really was. And the last H came off the assembly line in 1962. At Farnborough recently, an H made a single low pass and was covered with what looked like a new case of 'warts'. The guy who writes for Jane's was there and he said there were new things showing that he had not seen before. The BUF continues to evolve.
It's BUFF my friend.

Default BUFF & Hound Dog

I flew on D and E models (tail gunner was in the tail) out of Clinton-Sherman AFB, Oklahoma, as an inflight technician on the Hound Dog missile (AGM-28A/B) over 40 years ago. We thought they were old then! One of the funniest things was "fighter evasion".
