Oh yeah...it was an FCF hop, totally slick, so the perfect storm. Never had the configuration right to try Mach Deaux in a Big Mouth...supposed to be harder to do with the increased inlet drag.

I've heard the canopy will visibly bow in at high mach, any truth to that?

Reminds me of the ATC conversation with the SR71 descending into class A airspace, asking for his ground speed to top the hornet, topping the king air, topping the mooney etc..

The fastest I've ever seen was 2.16m in a clean (but not demo clean) eagle. (570 IAS, at FL480). She was accelerating too(!) straight and level when I ran out of airspace. Two said it was "a contrail of justice."

I bet there are some F-111 guys that have been pretty fast with those huge motors and swept wings, and I hear the f-14 with the GE motors was the same way.

Well the shuttle goes about 12-13x as fast, I think it breaks 1.0m (in the vertical!) around FL400... but it's also cheating I think if you have rocket motors right?

I'm surprised the big mouth isn't quicker, I've fought some and they are impressive!

Somebody else asked me that once, and frankly I didn't notice in the middle of all the FCF stuff. Would've been interesting to compare HUD to canopy clearances.

Had a skipper that said the turkey would just keep accelerating until it was out of gas.

If only it had been single seat...
