Speaking of A-4s......

I stopped in at Houston Ellington for a lunch stop on my way home a few Fridays ago and saw the Collings TA-4 flying around the pattem. It is always nice to see that airplane out flying. The WB-57 was also in the pattern later.

SaltyDog - were you in town flying or maybe Buick?

In the late 1990s EAA sold some of its jet collection including a CF-104 and I believe a Canadian A-4. Could this be that airplane ?

One of the aircraft has been removed from the boneyard and "refurbished." There is a rumor that the Warner Robbins museum aircraft will be returned to service. Both were former photo recon versions. That would make four WB (RB) - 57F aircraft operational. NASA just published a sole source contract justification to overhaul eight ejection seats. I flew them 1968-1970 and the "F" still does a job no other aircraft (including the U-2) can do.

I was adding in the 'X'. I didn't think to take it out.
I thought they still had to be labeled 'Experimental' other than the N-number.
Appreciate the photos FJ. Always a pleasure to see your work.

Single seat aircraft originally certified before a certain date (can't recall the specific one) can comply with the experimental labeling requirement with NX. I guess they figured the only person to hop into the airframe should know it is experimental.

My only foray into this flying was for ATAC, and none of theirs, nor the Colling's aircraft have this NX number. Instead all have regular N numbers and Experimental near the cockpit.
Learning something all the time!

So basically exhibition and homebuilt aircraft with the first original copy built more than 30 years ago can use the NX and not have the experimental label. I'm not sure if that would apply to places like Collins as they are not truly 'exhibition' and are in the business of selling rides.
