It's been a while since I've crossed the Atlantic myself, and I know there have been FCIFs about new procedures I haven't used yet.

I agree that we have a responsibility to prepare for those tasks, and I don't consider that Company work. That's me being proficient in my job. That's professionalism.

Another part of professionalism is showing up for work ON TIME ready (prepared) to START work.
.
We agree I think the difference between those like us and busdriver is he indicates if he knows a snowstorm, mels or other calamity is possibly going effect his flight he goes in early to be sure he pushes on time. Just because you look at the release, WX and Notams at home or the hotel does not mean that is the release or WX you get when at OPS, Ramp, or Aircraft internationally. One might be temped to gloss over the WX for example and miss something added since you looked earlier, since there is no identifier of a change like on the release. I will look generally over stuff at home such as CRAR, Airport Briefing pages, general weather and conditions but save the line item by line item of the release, WX and Notams until I have checked in at work and push when safe to do so. I thought everybody knew it was not in your best interest to log onto PFC when on a good layover or on RSV if you did not have to.

I don't know, HIFLYER, by Tony's definition, you just might not be competent because you are looking at anything related to your particular flight before show.

"The second possibility is the pilot is not sufficiently knowledgeable, competent, or skilled to accomplish the required tasks in the scheduled time. If that's the case, he can strive to become more knowledgeable, competent, and skilled, or he can always start early, and hope he never gets a reserve assignment with late call parking."

About not logging onto PFC early, is that because there could be a trip revision that you don't want to know about? You don't have to pick up notifications, but they always manage to track me down. Whether it's a phone call, a knock on the door, whatever. I guess I haven't cracked the code.

Yea I guess I am a half and half guy, I firmly believe in being prepared to fly. If I am going to ANC, KIX, BOG etc yes I look over the general info but leave the specifics until show time and push when safe to do so. I never answer the phone, door etc. , not so sure you can get away with not looking at a notification "I do not want to test that one" but I do not have to be available.

Yes, you're right. And what a waste of time. Talking about work on your off time is almost the same as doing work on your off time.

So how about those AA pay rates?

I remember getting lectured by a Bus Captain a few years ago because I didn't show up 15 minutes early for a line check. And he contended that is HIS sop and he sent me an email to let me know.. Btw, I was on hotel stby and had no clue.... Was that you?

I don't think 15 minutes would be enough for him

But with so many like that on the bus it could be anyone

When we had DC10s and Airbuses I was convinced most Airbus capts went to that seat because they could only alienate one guy at a time as opposed to two at a time on the DC10.

Most definitely not. Every single FO I've ever had on a line check has been awesome, and I have only expressed gratitude for their help. I didn't even lecture the last guy I had, who showed up late (yes, that means after show time) for the line check (not on reserve). In fact, I don't lecture anyone but my kids.

That's a bummer that you've flown with so many people you disliked. I liked almost everyone I have flown with as an FO (except the few that have fortunately retired), and most everyone I've flown with as a captain. It always amazes me that there is so much venom on APC. Sometimes I think there is no way that these are the same people that I fly with, and see in the crew room.

Default FDX vs AA Pay Rates...

Good to hear.. Busdriver12. Your comments just came off as such.. Anybody remember when show time was a problem and they changed all pairings to +15? Forget why that stopped... It was around the time Zero took over for Jack (I think?). Or was it when PC took over as VP... D@mn. Can't remember. Seems like they can solve this problem when it becomes a problem.. I guess that was my point.. I don't know.

PS, I do remember exactly who it was.. Both Captain and LCA retired Air Force 0-6s, living near their Alma Mater... Always remember all the bad experiences.. And some of the good..
