Why didn't Boeing save themselves from all of the pain of the 787 and go with a 767MAX?
Range, payload and fuel burn perhaps.

Well said. We keep going and growing, eventually that time will come and the330 NEO would make sense from a lot of JB perspectives. I am not holding my breath but I am hopeful.

I'm not saying there is any demise of JBLU on the horizon, but I do find it interesting that they codeshare with the jihadi airline that has orders that are worth more than the market cap of the entire US aviation industry. So why would they need to do any long haul flying? They have some else to do it all for them...

Perhaps.

But, why then make the 739? Performance doesn't seem to be it's strong suit. Maybe the 767 is a bad example, how about the 777-100SP?

Not perfect, but it'd do the job and surely the ROI on that would've been far better than a clean (burning) sheet 787. Plus cockpit commonality, type rating commonality, etc. Why have that fancy A350 that will be delayed when I can put you in one of these babies TODAY!
