It's not 12,000 anymore. It's less than 6,000. Pool dwindling fast.

Money talks.....
These upper management types have to get this through their overpriced MBA skulls.

Do you think many of these Execs/Senior VPs at the airlines...or any business would want their jobs if they only made about $80,000 to $200,000 after taxes after years of perfecting their craft/being in the business. Hell no they wouldn't. They would never be able to pay back their MBAs or buy second and third vacation homes on the salaries I mentioned. These guys expect to make $500,000 and MUCH MORE after taxes...otherwise you would have little to zero interest in inidividuals wanting to become CEOs, CFOs, COOs, Managing Directors, Senior VPs, or any other job like that. Tell me with a straight face that the PepsiCo could hire a CEO with an advertised salary....and no other compensation...for only $650,000. PepsiCo would never field a serious candidate.

You gotta pay up guys....and you have more than enough money to do it. Otherwise quit putting your hand on the hot stove over and over and complaining about your burned hand.

Supply and Demand

Fellow gentlemen and gals, please refrain from believing this load of Scheiße. For one, not only is it propaganda from the University of North Dakota to enroll more students into their ailing flight school, but moreover, if SWA's managers fear a shortage of applicants, why aren't they doing something to bring aboard the thousands of regional captains who have applied there and have attended many job fairs for a chance of being picked up by SWA?

Do not fall for the lies, friends....

Excellent point! If that management guy really believed it they wouldn't negotiate so aggressively against their pilots right now, it isn't low pay at the regionals that is keeping young people from wanting careers as pilots. It is "the lack of draw from the top of the straw" that is why a 20 yr old doesn't want a 4yr degree plus $150,000 in flight training debt only to make mediocre pay at a major airline...The mid 2000's pay reduction, and elimination of benefits has been enough to ensure that there will be "no fourth generation airline pilots" in the words of Captain Sullenberger. The only cracks I see appearing in the management armor is the recent TA at Allegiant.

True, Μολών Λαβέ, and of course there are so many hurdles hindering regional pilots from ever making the transition to mainline which sadly many will never jump over. Young people with the intent of becoming rich see it from a young age if they are sharp-minded, and choose other more lucrative career-fields where they can stay home every night.

So here's thing...the way to draw new FO's is to boost 1st year pay. If a union is faced with 2 contract options, one adds $10/hr to 1st yr FO pay and $0 to the top CA pay and the other adds $0 to 1st yr FO pay and $10/hr to the top CA pay, which do you think will pass? Also doesn't the union get 0% the first year?
