One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that many of the 20 somethings and younger are far less motivated by pay than older folks are. Recruiters for corporations across many industries are finding that recent college graduates are far more focused on quality of life issues above all else.
Trying to entice 20 somethings and millennials with high cost of entry, low pay, long days and 20 nights or more away from home staying at cheap hotels in places like Elmira, Akron and Topeka is just not going to cut it.

Then I hope they all enjoy living on government cheese clutching their participation trophy from the fifth grade. Vertually every profession worth striving for has a crappy underbelly of dues. Law, medicine, communication, yes, and even airline pilots. You don't get to be the hot shot defense lawyer, the brain surgeon, or the evening news anchor on day one. Timing and luck have something to do with all these as well...unless daddy's or mommies influence can shield you from some of the pain. Otherwise, whining about not getting an international schedule with 20 days off and a six figure salary will result in more time in the parents' basement playing Xbox on THEIR Internet connection and THEIR couch. Reality doesn't care.

Nahhh, if any movie would have that kind of impact on young impressionables, it would have been "Catch Me If You Can." The sight of Leonardo DiCaprio decked out in full dress with 1-2 babes on each arm walking through the terminal trumps all else.

Millennials must be a lot smarter than the current generation of guys here. Back then it was just plain stupid to put up a bunch of money to get to the point of making below min wage to instruct for years, then have to pay an employer for the pleasure of riding the FO seat at a commuter for next to nothing, all for a hope to upgrade in a year to get some captain time to get to one of the majors most of which had B scales.
So now that pay has doubled and there are bonuses paid vs training contracts, flow thrus and guaranteed interviews people still don't do it. Yep, sounds like the current generation knows quite a bit more than those on here *****ing about how lazy they are.
Ironic because as pilots we do everything in our power to weasel out of working and maximize our pay and time off.

Honestly, I hope the best for all of you. Just remember that this industry and life is fickle. You don't know you're a pawn until your piece has been played.

Then you're a fool for thinking you have life by the balls. Go ahead and buy the Captain's house and the car to go with it as a newhire. Good luck to you. I hope the reality of a cyclical industry doesen't bite you. It did for my entire generation....twice. Feel free to think you're smarter....
