If you guys could do it all over again, where would you train, how would you build hours and what airlines would you target?

I would go back in time and fly in the Navy all over again, and I would target the exact same airlines I am targeting today: UAL, SWA, AAL, DAL and FDX (in no particular order).

If i did it all over again I wouldn't have waited 2 years to get my CFI. I hung around waiting for a job to fall in my lap that never did. So after two years I knew i had no other option as I couldnt move with a family, I did the AF flyers thing and got hired at the school i graduated from immediately. I am really glad I did it, but had i done the CFI as soon as I graduated I would be at a regional by now looking at an upgrade or possibly a major, not just now entering the regional world. Not too upset though as I am still young so I know I have a long career ahead of me. Good luck and get that CFI ticket (IMHO)

Forget quality time, just do it fast, and a CFI job, in a big school, it is probably the fastest way to get those 1500 hours.
All other considerations as airmanship, CRM, solid basics, network, etc etc are also true.
