PenFed is great. I don't get loans from anybody else anymore. You can do most everything online, customer service is fine. The only issue I have is that they have huge demand, because they generally offer a better deal than most lenders, so it can take awhile for loans to go through. The great thing is that if the delay is their fault, even if your lock expires, they don't hold it against you and raise their rates (unlike most lenders). They don't jerk you around and promise one rate, and then change it. They are very straightforward. However, since they keep their loans and do not sell them, they require plenty of paperwork. They won't give out low quality loans.
Every time I go looking for another lender, I come back to PenFed, because you can't beat their rates. Navy FCU comes very close, maybe even the same.
