Rolled my eyes and quit reading right there. Because they didn't write "Type I" diabetes, we're talking about a 44 year old fatty with Type II.
You'd better believe Merck or their ilk wants to sell her another pill rather than tell her to put the doughnuts down if she wants to live. Because apparently that's impossible, even when staring at a hangman's noose.
She's a nurse, for Jebus sake. She knows (presumably) because SCIENCE tells her daily choices have consequences.
True enough. This is a disease of the old and the sugar addicted. Sure, there are the one-off young and seemingly healthy that die from this bug. But young, healthy people die also die in car crashes, suicides, drownings, and by other, less colorful causes every day. It's sad. Tragic even. But the statistics show that this bug kills OLD, UNHEALTHY people. Look after yourself, put down the donut, and your odds of survival increase exponentially.
