What or did the pilot’s union say about this?

They say Mask up or United will stop allowing you to fly United Express planes. Union was pretty clear that there's not really much they can do about it. Not sure what all the fuss is about. When we're at work we're at the whim of the company (within contractural rights) and the company is allowed to tell us what to wear as a uniform (at their expense). They provided free masks to all of us, so they absolutely have the right to require you to wear the mask while on duty.

And I guarantee that the Union isn't going to be able to save your job after United stops you from flying for United Express. It's okay to not like the policy, but trying to actively circumvent it is foolish and self-defeating.

Default Mask Narking

I left AW a few years ago. So I was just wondering. I figured this is what the union would say. Just like in 2012, the company went to the union about wearing hats. And the union said “Wear your hat. It’s part of the uniform. The company is paying for it.”
If they want you to wear a face covering, then wear it. I learned a long time ago what being a rebel accomplishes. It accomplishes absolutely nothing. I just think it’s crappy that one time they can photograph you and have you fired. At least a stern warning, at first, would be sufficient. Then if one refuses to comply, then termination is just. What if someone is eating or drinking in the plane or terminal? Have to remove the face covering to do that.
I’m sure nobody wants to fall victim to some over zealous management type.

My understanding with the two pilots in question that were reprimanded is that they were holding a cup of coffee, not drinking from it, and walking around the terminal. If you have coffee and you're drinking it, pull down the mask, take a sip, put mask back on. This policy won't punish people who are legitimately eating or drinking, it will just get people who are trying to circumvent the rules.

Just look at people choosing this hill to die on as furlough mitigation. If someone gets fired for something as simple as not wearing a mask, that’s potentially one less furlough.

Default The Coffee Cup

You all have TOTALLY, TOTALLY missed the point of the coffee cup that keeps being brought up as a suggestion one is using it to circumvent the mask requirements. That wasn't the intent or pupose of the suggestion. The idea behind the coffee cup is to protect yourself, and my fellow coworkers from the Narkers that are rampant in the system now. You have people taking photos of your every move, ready to catch you off guard at any moment. The minute your mask is removed, whether temporary or for another biological reason, someone is going to photograph you and send it in for enforcement. However, the coffee cup in hand greatly reduces your chances of disciplinary action used against you. The suggestion is an aid to combat negative enforcement by Narkers who tend to be politically motivated individuals. The mask isnt about safety, it is about compliance now, we all know it. The science proves it, masks dont do squat. So if you want to combat negative enforcement in a now ultra competitive job market, carry the coffe cup. The intelligent ones knew this was the reason it was suggested in the 1st place, the children took it as a method of cicumventing the system. Nark protection is THE KEY.

I hear ya brother, the Clintons have financed a cabal of photographers aiming to get Airline Pilots (a notoriously conservative group) fired. Their hope is that after the third divorce and being fired from a regional gig for not following socialist propaganda you will be so distraught you will forget to vote, and Biden will win. Stay strong, only the truly smart ones know what this is all about, it’s high IQ COINTELPRO, but if it ever gets hairy for you just flash your Trump party tattoo, it’s a guaranteed get out of jail free card.

Don’t know why having a coffee cup and drinking to oppose the mask policy is “dying on a hill”. It’s a loophole and exploit to the broad definitions of the mask policy.

Unlike hats, tattoos, and etc that explicitly state it in the policy, taking off your mask to drink and eating is allowed. No where in the policy does it talk about duration nor specific examples.

People who are dying on hill are those stating that only a short duration can your mask be off if you’re doing those activities.
