And then there's the guy who got a call from FedEx with no internal recommendations, but can't crack the door at Alaska after years of trying. Or maybe you don't consider FedEx "major".

I had an interview with SWA and Alaska in the same week almost a year ago. I used Vicki Ross for my swa prep and it served me well for Alaska as well. I thought the interview in Seattle was very professional and thorough but I still chose SWA. It was an easy decision based on the info I received from friends working at both.

Knok Knok, I did not fly for Horizon and I did not fly for the military. Puts me in the 3rd category. Have interviewed twice since I have been here. UPS and SWA. Does not bother me at all to “play ball”at the triple A level. Not everyone gets to go to the “majors”. It is just a job...

It seems to bother you very much. If it didn’t bother you, why would you waste your time repeating the same thing over and over? If you were ok playing ball at a AAA level and it was just a job to you, you would show up, swing your bat and go home. You haven’t said anything new since I’ve started reading the Alaska threads years ago. I don’t care one bit that you deride AS management and our crap contract but you constantly attack the employee group. The new hires didn’t create this mess. More than half of our current seniority list hasn’t had a chance to vote on a contract here. I believe we’ve flow together and we discussed valid concerns with the direction this company is headed. You’re a good dude but it cheapens your argument when you go after new guys.

Not going after new guys. Nothing wrong with being here. I swing my bat every day and go home. Fact is that Horizon guys kinda flow, military guys have another gig and the rest of us are just here. I will just make this point brother: Many here talk a big talk...but facts are that very few are competitive to move on if things dont go”our way”...being honest with ones self and ones surroundings helps when the fight gets long and hard...

Alaska took over hiring sometime beginning of this year. Pretty sure there's only been 1 or 2 bus classes.

You sound really stupid saying these things, and your "facts" are really just opinions.

I'll bet he is. I made the opposite career mistake. I could have been with UPS when they first started hiring their own pilots. But I compared Captain rates: AS was $154 an hour and UPS was $111. I went for the money.

Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

On the flip side, when United finally called I was on the line at AS. Not going there saved me from being furloughed TWICE.

AS can be a good career, but YOU have to grow a set and get your contract straightened out. That means electing some pit bulls to LEC and MEC officer positions and be willing to walk the line if it comes down to it. Your contract is only as good as what the MAJORITY of your pilots is willing to fight for.

Default Facts don’t care about your feelings...

If the last union votes are any indication, at least in the past, it appears Alaska looks for pilots who might be either genuinely satisfied with a below industry standard contract or, might complain a lot but then don’t volunteer for any union work and can’t even be inconvenienced with even voting for their base or MEC leadership.
It’s apparent that at least using this metric, VX had a different model.... cause they volunteer, they vote, and they’re engaged.... and I’m stoked they’re here.
