I feel like the court of public opinion is gonna kill off the MAX well before boeing or the feds try to do it. I'm curious to see if they can win back the hearts and minds of the panicked.

That said, I am super curious how the 797 announcement goes at the Paris Air Show this month. Especially now that airbus will announce the A321XLR. 4500/5000 mile range on one of the most fuel efficient aircraft in the industry could very well be a massive game changer.

The “hearts and minds of the Public” didn’t know what a “Max” was prior to the accidents and couldn’t tell you a NG from a max if they were right next to each other, let alone an Airbus. The general public only knows planes by seat maps. Is it a 2x2? A 3x3? A 2x3? A 3x3x3? Or a 3x4x3? < took that one to Paris.

You're absolutely right....they didn't. But that said, after the Ethiopian crash EVERYONE knew what the MAX was. As long as it stays in the news, (with a criminal investigation in the works, rest assured it will be) the public will continue to ask questions until they are satisfied.

We haven't had a series of same type crashes in a very long time. Well before the days of the social media platforms that we have now. The public is able to get information much faster than ever before. Now granted, all information may not be factual....but in classic news fashion....if it bleeds, it leads. Imagine if facebook had existed when DC-10s were having accident after accident....or hell, even when the A320 debuted at the Paris Airshow.

It's foolish to think that this is simply going to blow over once/if the software patch gets approved.

Shocking as it may sound but Alaska is in regular contact with Boeing and what Boeing is telling Alaska is the timeline I was sharing.

A lot of Airbus FO’s do significantly better on the Boeing, Captain’s on the Airbus is a different story.

you see, Jeffy here works part time at Boeing as a white board licker.... tough job to get I hear...

Can’t announce an order of 101 Max when the airplane is grounded. Looks bad, looks like you care not about safety and only the almighty dollar. We all know safety is the first priority at Alaska and money is a distant third behind employee happiness.

Mea25000 08-11-2019 10:51 AM

I assure you this is a titanic disaster for Boeing and is quickly becoming a disaster for AS. I would attempt to give a timeline but it seems to slip by the day. I know our order has protections and the longer this takes the more likely we see significant changes to it.

Flaps1check 08-11-2019 11:19 AM

One would hope that they did not put all their eggs in one Max basket. Hopefully they have other options for airframe growth outside of the 175/190.

They have NEO positions, right?

Nothing to fear, they’re just being used to develop the route and get customer loyalty.

Ala5ka 08-14-2019 07:20 AM

This time they promise it’ll be done by end of August.. they mean it this time. We heart Boeing and stand by them in this trying time, even though they were criminally negligent and have the blood of nearly 400 blindly trusting passengers on their hands... profits over safety boys!! Two similar aligning philosophies from Alaska and Boeing I guess.

Ps my last leg flying for Alaska I got the pleasure of flying an Airbus with 7 MELs!!! S E V E N ! Ready Safe Go

Isn't that about fleet average?

I had an APU that had been deferred for 8 days a few trips ago. That blown slide is a direct result of management incompetence.

100% agreed. This place is one embarrassment after another. This isn't a FFD airline where UAL/DAL/AAL is breathing down their neck threatening to pull their contract unless they cut costs - this is a major airline with one of the highest profit margins in the industry.

Also, the fact that the cross-training for the FA's was so hurried and poor and didn't even include a single OE flight is criminally negligent IMO.

ShyGuy 08-15-2019 01:00 AM

Browsing this thread and other MAX threads, it is woefully obvious too many pilots don’t know what “criminally negligent” really means.

Ala5ka 08-15-2019 02:00 PM

Forgive me, I meant criminally irresponsible.

However, after years of reading your opinions on three different forums, it is woefully obvious that you know very little about a lot of things so I guess I’m in good company. Although, I wouldn’t have publicly bashed a co-worker and referenced their instagram for the entire pilot group to see his mistake. But you do you.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. Someone did post direct links to the thread and Instagram post, but that wasn’t me. And you’re quitting right so why are you so heated up still?

KnockKnock 08-15-2019 02:33 PM

Nobody should be calling out individuals by name on any of these forums. Here or Alyeska. Disagreeing with someone is one thing but to try and suppress their opinions by naming them is unacceptable. Take that $hit to a PM if you have personal beef. This is getting incredibly petty.

Ala5ka 08-15-2019 03:31 PM

I don’t disagree with you in the slightest.

I thought it was wildly inappropriate for someone to post a screen shot of one of our FOs instagram pictures on the forum. Regardless of what he was doing.

I thought it was inappropriate for that post to then be unnecessarily mentioned and talked about in the alyeska for all the pilot group to see.

I thought it was inappropriate that then other pilots joined in and publicly humiliated our co worker.

Lastly, I found it inappropriate that someone just named someone’s username and identified them publicly regardless of people’s opinion of this person.

You guys won’t beat the company by belittling each other and humiliating one another.

We won't beat the company by volunteering to get elbow deep in feces to do them favors either. Or for that matter, by doing anyone's job but our OWN. 🤷*♂️ I didn't post his name, I didn't post his face, and what he's doing is a disgrace to himself, his coworkers, and his entire profession, and if anyone humiliated him, it was himself.

Damned right.

I don’t disagree with that either. I don’t agree with the posting of his photo without his permission, but I guess once you put a photo out into the web you lose control of what happens to it.

This individual, took it upon himself to become turd hearse assistant. This, IMO lowers the bar, not only to the profession, but new low expectations of management to get the job done. This ranks up there with accepting open trips whilst fellow crews are furloughed.

Brown nosing, pardon the pun, is one of the lowest forms of behaviour in any profession.
