Default Jumpseating with a checked bag

Hi folks,
I'm planning on jumpseating on an Alaska flight this week, but I will have a bag with me that will need to be checked. Is this possible? Jumpseating procedures tell me to list with the gate agent, but not sure if I should try checking the bag at the counter first, or if I should just go through KCM with it and have them gate check it. TIA!

Have them check it at the gate if it’s not unreasonably large for KCM.

I've brought a ski bag with skis, boots, and poles with me many times while on a jumpseat pass on Alaska, as well as their sister company, Horizon. I've simply checked in at the ticket counter. No issues ever.

If you happen to be in uniform they will put an orange jetbridge tag on it, and you will find it at the next jetbridge when you get off. If no uniform it’s agent discretion if it gets an orange tag or if it gets shipped to baggage claim. Either way as long as you make it through security/Kcm you should be good.

I’ve had an agent list me at the counter and check it there. I believe she put a standby tag on it.

I know a person who showed up 55 min before departure on a confirmed seat and the agent refused to check the bag at the counter. The supervisor went as far as rebooking him on the first flight the next day morning despite showing her his ID thinking he wouldn’t make it thru security. My friend said “sure, whatever,” and walked straight to KCM with his gigantic military roller duffle, walked to the gate, and listed for the jumpseat. They cleared him (probably into his confirmed seat), and he checked his bag planeside no problem.

In 29 years of commuting/jumpseating/non-revving I've NEVER had a problem with the agents gate checking bags. If they can (sometimes they have restrictions) they'll orange tag it for jetway delivery. If not they'll send it to baggage claim.

No worries.
