Less likely if they have ANY interest whatsoever in M&A. Taking on a white elephant regional contract that violates EVERYBODY else's scope would really paint them into a corner.

Interesting Analysis

I just read an article that said the Max would not be flying until at least the end of Mar2020, and that was not very likely...

Would be nice to get more than 12 or 13 days off a month, but I don’t see us being the prime target for a southwest acquisition, especially if diversification is the goal.

Maybe expansion is the goal...
If they don't like them, they can just return them soon enough. If they do like them, they have more delivery slots in hand... |
Alaska is far too arrogant to let themselves be bought regardless if “end of times” ever comes near.
Alaska is basically printing money. It is a terrible airline to be a pilot for but as far as business success goes, Alaska is hugely successful in the good/fair economy . I think Alaska allowing themselves to be acquired or a party to another merger is the only route to long term survival. I think Angel Lake is far too in love with the Eskimo to ever give it up. Unfortunately for my former brothers and sisters at Alaska any light at the end of the tunnel is purely conjecture.

Expansion plus an opportunity to try out the 73 alternative?

I thought it was curious the article didn’t show on the map or even mention Alaska’s presence in Hawaii. Seems either odd or negligent.

It’s not just domiciles.
JNU, JFK, LAX, SJC, SAN, LAS all show # of Alaska departures. Not domiciles. But not any of Hawaii.... which would now also be an overlap with SWA. |
