What say you for a 45 year old with 4 years in at AS. Switching to United sometime this year? How big will the pay hit be? How long to catch up? Would live in base in either SEA or SFO. But the real benefit is long-term QOL, schedule flexibility and WB opportunity. Of course they might announce the merger the day after you start class, that would be annoying... end up junior to yourself. |
Under 50 with less than 6 years of seniority, should you stay or you go? I’d leave for the big 3, FeEx, or UPS and never look back. The pros far outweigh the cons. I should’ve left after Kasher when I had the chance. I’ve never felt this way until the recent events and I was blind. Don’t make the same mistake as I did. The culture and mindset of this uber evil and greedy management will never take a turn for the better.

Why work for the lowest hourly, lowest 401k contributor & some of the worst schedules?
If I’m gonna be on the road away from my comfort zone, family & hobbies then I’m gonna get paid for it. Alaska Airlines used to be a respectful place. I wouldn’t say it is anymore. |
It used to be there were various discussions here of all things and aspects. Now? This forum is full
of complaining and POed people. Lowest 401K? We’re 15.5%. While not as high as the 16% at the big 3, it isn’t exactly the lowest in the industry. It’s sad now that this forum has boiled down to just complaining by the same crowd of people who are POed at Alaska but either won’t leave or can’t leave. Misery loves company here on APC. |

I’m confused by your constant pandering to the company, obfuscation of facts and personal attacks toward those who don’t see things your way. Sincerely: why do you do this? What is the goal? You can always tell when you've beaten ShyGuy on debate points. His last resort is always some variation of "U Mad, bro?"
It’s not much of a challenge. I was only asking him why he constantly does the above 3 things because I’m curious and in a way hopeful if there is some strategy that is in play. I asked for a hotel room 3 times for my 4+ hour sit this week. On the 3rd try crew scheduling finally begrudgingly gave me a room and the captain too. He never even tried calling and didn’t use the room during our 4 hour sit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm generally rooting more for shy guy but newguy made a point by getting a day room!

Exactly. Same Whiney minority over and over. I hit the federal all sources maximum 401k contribution in 2021 as I do every year. That’s more money alone than most people earn in a year. I get 15 days off a month, max savings and cleared well over 300k. I have the maximum insurance of everything that’s offered. Compared to a regular job, I’m not complaining. That said, I still have never voted for any contract here. Things need improvement but it’s hardly the sweat shop whiners wish it to be.

Yes, you're kicking the Home Depot stock boy's *ss in W-2s. That's not the point. I feel like there's an intentional blind spot that keeps the lifers from acknowledging just how far behind they really are. |

I feel like there's an intentional blind spot that keeps the lifers from acknowledging just how far behind they really are. A neighbor(ish) makes 500k a year managing a team at Microsoft. She was complaining about 180 hours of work a month, from home. My line for February pays 82hrs and the time away from base is 260+ hours. All the captains here are managing a team around the same number as my neighbor. It’s crazy to think about what we are missing out on. It’s also wild how when a pilot suggests an improvement or points out factual data of things being they are considered “whiners.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I couldn’t agree more! I don’t get it. Maybe a coping mechanism? I mean, no one likes to hear how bad their job sucks compared to their PEERS. Especially when you were part of the group that let it happen. Of course being an airline pilot at an 80+ year old airline is a better job than many other jobs. That is not the point! I’m way better at football than my 9 year old and his friends! I mean, I smoke ‘em! They have no chance of tackling me! I must be awesome!

So given that you know that, and has voted no for decades as you say, why are you so condescending to the pilots who have/are expressing their utter frustration, anger and discontent?
