Oct 2018 for SFO From my understanding, SAN has seen a lot of growth over the last several years…is that correct? And has there been any internal discussions about SAN being named a base? Or is that something very unlikely? |

Can’t even do a SAN base, which is currently the city with the most mainline departures/day that isn’t a pilot domicile. Yet I’m hearing rumors about places like NYC (what an insult) and AUS. Seriously?

There used to be some mom&pop estimate thing about departures for a base but thankfully they are just starting to realize the earth is not flat up there in See attle

Is one really to believe they’d open a midcon or east coast base simply for pilot attraction? Don’t see it happening IMO.

east coast base makes sense to have reserve on the east coast. If someone bangs sick or fatigued anywhere east of OMA that day there’s no way to get someone to work the flight. Would make sense for operational reliability
Reality is people usually don’t bang out mid trip in the east coast, and if they do, they usually do so quickly after landing so it gives the company enough time to fly someone over and recover the next day departure. If not, worse case is a cancellation. Now compare those once-in-a-while costs to having a permanent pilot base costs. |

They had that, they shut it down.
