Now compare that with the opportunity costs of not being able to recruit east coast pilots.

It doesn’t look like they care. And an east coast pilot probably doesn’t even want to work for an airline named Alaska, even if they had a NY base. A cold hard fact about the Virgin NYC base, where you got in is where you were stuck. It was a dead end base for FOs. Literally zero movement. The only time I moved up from about ~37 / 55ish was when FOs above me got tired of it and took the west coast upgrade. Then before the doors closed the best I had was about #18.

Of course, once the virtual base thing happened, these guys who bid out west coast for upgrade were hosed from bidding NYC because they weren’t based in NY on paper when the base closed Aug 31, 2018.

I did in 2016 when the AS merger was announced. No calls 2016-2019 when it was still very competitive. 2019 we moved to LA. Then the pandemic started and that was that. Now 12th yr pay and I’m staying.

I also had my apps in 2016-2019 at other airlines and didn't get a call.. it was still very much competitive at that point.

ah yes nothing like getting hired at DL during the easiest time to ever get hired at delta and then being rude to your fellow pilots telling them they should of put their apps in.

If all you did was put an app in then I guess that showed the level of commitment you had for trying to leave... I can't tell you how many job fairs and additional job titles I took on to help my resume get pulled but sure call it being rude. Shy and many others coulda put in a lot more effort and moved on to another carrier and been in a better position than uprooting his entire family for Alaska. Instead there is a lot of truth to the saying the miserable folks at Alaska post contract, expecting the pilot group to do any sort of heavy lifting was just not going to happen.

I went to job fairs too. You aren’t the only special thing. You too didn’t get hired at Delta in the 2016-2019 timeframe either. You left in the post pandemic staffing crisis at the majors. Sorry, but let’s call a spade a spade here.

And I uprooted my family for Virgin. Moved to SFO first. Then NYC opened and moved there. After closure, moved again to LAX. I’m not built for a long term commute. Wife’s job can be done anywhere so we will always move to base. I signed up for what was a west coast airline so I know what I signed up for.

Good thing you know my story from just prior to Covid. You know not everyone feels the need to tell their life's story online bud.
