Aloha from a Hawaiian Pilot

4.5 years, this will increase with the merger. Out the back end growth will increase significantly and you will no longer worry about upgrade times. 3.5 years until you will be able to bid on the AS side. By then you will hold CA in any base you want!
SEA 5.5
SFO 4.5
PDX 7
ANC 7
LAX 6
thats the dirty from memory… but really close
HNL will be the only base fenced for probably 4-5 years… it’s gonna be good… really really good. Unless you live on the east coast 😂

Well friends, it looks like we will be working together in the not too distant future! I'm excited about the possibility, because I'm a Hawaiian Pilot that has been commuting from PDX.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about Alaska Airlines. I was hoping we could start a discussion about general morale, the new(ish) contract, work rules and anything else you want to get off your chest re: our new pilot group.
Mahalo,
M

I think this will be a good move for all. A lot of us are former VX and have been through this. Try not to get worked up and stressed, as this isn't a fun thing to go through no matter what side of the coin we fall on. I hope AS does the right thing and preserves the HA legacy as we become one airline.

Aloha from another Hawaiian pilot, as one pretty far on the junior side and trying to prepare for every scenario:
I've heard that LAX and SFO are your two most junior bases. Is one more junior than the other? Is there some concrete reason one is better/worse than the other? Just trying to get an idea in case a displacement is in my future

That is far enough in the future that I wouldn't worry about it at all. SFO was most junior because it was "growing" and it's very expensive to live there... as with most Alaska bases. Nothing too shocking if you live in Hawaii, but real estate near SFO is ridiculous. Alaska also typically attracts people that want to live in the Pacific Northwest, and so they have a lot of turnover and movement when trying to grow other bases/cities.. it was ANC when I got on property, then for years LAX was junior, now SFO. SEA always has a relatively junior seniority too, so that is usually an option pretty quickly for new hires who don't want to be SFO... unless we stop hiring and don't put out new bids.
