There isn't a usual day at Alaska. You could have a 2 day that flies 5 legs through southeast Alaska, layover and do 5 legs home. You could have a 2 leg turn worth 8.5. You could do a 2 day with one leg to the islands and one leg home. You could do a 4 day with Hawaii emedded. You could have back to back redeyes covering two duty periods, but 3 calendar days. You could also do 2 to 4 days of flying up and down the west coast averaging 5 hours per day.

Almost any combo you can dream up is build into a pairing.

Our average days off across all flying is around 15-16 with a credit around 80. Max days off is usually 21 and min is usually around 12 or 13.

If I was pushed to say what an average trip looks like, I would say one to 3 legs each day averaging just over 5 hours of flying per day.

If you have any friends at Alaska, you could probably get them to email you a bid packet.

Alaska doesn't yay or nay quickly. You wouldn't get a nay until just before they open another app window (thinking this fall). Patience is key. I applied for a few years and pushed hard before they called out of the blue one day.

For those based in Seattle and living there, what areas do most pilots with families live?

All over the place. Gig is nice. Great schools and community, but with that comes a price. Some live in the suburbs closer to the airport. Some live downtown and ride the light rail to work. (Probably fewer with families doing this, though.) Like anywhere else, what's best for you will depend on your housing/neighborhood preferences, how much you want to spend, etc.

Anyone commute from the NW interior? I sure like the Sunriver/Bend area, and it looks like there are plenty of Horizon flights to SEA & PDX.

Portland has a handful of Redmond/Bend commuters, but our trips aren't very commutable on both ends so often they end up driving.
