Something on your App flagged the thanks but no thanks. There is no way with internals, exceeding the mins and no deep dark secrets you would get a thanks but no thanks. Maybe you selected yes on a question and didn't realize you did it.? Everyone I know in your position just doesn't hear anything and continues to reapply or gets a call.

Any truth to the "degree requirement" going away?

Are you from Horizon? Did you meet with anyone at a career day? There are a number of things that can trip you up. It's best to just move on and be satisfied that you are probably not a good fit with the culture of the airline. That could be total BS but sometimes you just have to move on.

I just flew with a guy involved in the screening of resumes and applications. He scoffed when I floated the notion of doing away with the college requirement. I think they are likely to reduce the PIC turbine requirement long before college.

I met with a chief earlier this week and he stated that the requirement stands. It will not be going away anytime in the near future.

.
I'm not from Horizon, or haven't met with any recruiters. Tried to get into the ALPA event but got the no thanks just before the selection for that.

Not too worried about it.. whatever.. something better will probably come along. Just surprised to get kicked out completely and not keep my app on file. Also, not sure how the "not a good fit for the culture" could even apply.. since you can't really expect to know anything about a person's fit from a simple online application.

Very true. All I can think of is there is something in your application that disqualifies you or somebody knows you or there's a mistake. Maybe get a hold of the person who wrote a letter of recommendation and see if they can get some more information.

No worries. I'll just re-apply next time. Was really just posting to say that they do notify you of a yay or nay fairly quickly. At least "in my case". The only other "nay" I have ever received from an airline application was from Hawaiian, (which I expected when they hired only 14 out of 4000 apps. Lol)

And just for clarification.. when I said references. I meant from my current CP's and many other Line Check Airmen at my current airline. The only person I personally know really well at Alaska is a brand new hire who just got hired on. So I had no "internal" recs yet.

Just for the record. I've spoken to the CP and others involved in hiring and they are very respectful of new hire recommendations. They figure they know the person's flying ability better than some 20 year captain who has never flown with them AND they are not likely to stick their neck out for someone unless they are confident in their character and ability. If your friend gets online, hit them up for a letter. It can only help.

Very true. A guy in my newhire class 9 years ago walked in a resume for a friend when we had only been there 2 weeks. The guy got an interview soon after. I was surprised they would take recs from brand new guys.

good luck!!

You didn't check yes to the tobacco question did you? Sometimes people think they're looking for honesty but it's an instant dequalifier.
