Then stop doing that. A company photo ID and a piece of paper from the gate telling you they have been checked in CASS is all that is needed. Even though it's your prerogative, it's silly to ask for anything else. I mean what they he|| are you even needing to see on a medical?

Didn't mean to stir the pot but...
The ALPA Jumpseat guide states
", captains have the responsibility to verify each jumpseater’s identity and authority to occupy a flight deck jumpseat. When a jumpseat request is made, whether for a seat in the cabin or in the flight deck, the PIC is responsible for performing the following procedures:
1. Verifying company ID by means of face/name match
2. Verifying FAA flight and medical certificates
3. Verifying Cockpit Access Security System (CASS) approval—if questions arise regarding an individual’s CASS approval, it is recommended that the gate agent recheck CASS while the PIC observes. "
Personally, I offer my plastic ID holder with ID, license and medical to the Capt on first meeting. Up to him after that.
I always appreciate the ride.

Might be old school but that's how I was taught.
Board unobtrusively. Ask FA if you can enter flight deck.
Make sure you're not interrupting a checklist or briefing.
Courteously ask for a ride; offer Captain ID, license, Medical & jumpseat form.
If you have to ride up front respect sterile cockpit.
Only pull out your Iphone/ipad/book/magazine if the crew does likewise.
And does it have to be said - no picture taking!

I never have my documents in my actual hands because 99% of the time Capt's don't ask for it, it's not required, and it's awkward when the captain goes to shake your hand and you can't because you have your license, passport, medical, and company ID in your hands. I have my documents on me and if asked I produce them with no fuss or surprise.
In fact, you should not just "inspect" the jumpseater's papers, but the FAA's as well. Make sure the number on their ID matches the number on their badge.
I always hand the Captain my license, medical, Company ID and jumpseat form before he/she has the chance to ask for it.

Yes. But the person that works the ticket counter also works the gate and marshals the plane. There are no airline employees, I believe they are all contract and work all airlines. Give yourself at least an hour prior to takeoff and try the ticket counter if you can first.

Do whatever works for you. As long as you have your certs on you is all that matters. No fed in the world is gonna care if you introduce yourself to the captain with your certs in your pocket instead of your hand, just make sure you present them at some point. Easy.
