Default How long to get to LAX on 320

We want to get the 320 to LAX, but this drop has mostly LGA 320’s. Any estimates on how long it would take to switch domiciles, both look pretty junior and I’m assuming no more than a month or two, just don’t want to be commuting to the east coast for 6 months. Also 737 will probably be an option to lax in the drop, I know they cover multiple bases, and have slightly longer trips on average any other pro’s or cons to consider with the LAX 737? Thanks for any input!

Each drop is different and my recent class had a lot of 320/LAX but this one has a lot of 320/LGA. I would think that by your first vacancy bid you could probably hold it.

If not out of the first indoc bid, then your first month off OE mutual base exchange would be available, and the first vacancy bid might happen before you're done with training. Odds are good. Less than six months would be a conservative guess.

I wouldn't put to much confidence in guys bidding into LGA using the mutual base exchange option. Guys who want LGA are typically already there.

If you're timing is great you'll be on property just before the quarterly bid vacancy runs. Get your equipment assignment on day 2 and enter your dream sheet requests that evening. In a perfect world the assignments close the next day and you get your dream sheet award about 10 business days later. Example late July awards were for December. But they can release a same seat guy in November if not earlier. So a July newhire to LGA 320 could be in LAX by November, or earlier, and NLT than December. There's some exceptions and caveats but that's the basic concept. That same July new hire wouldn't finish IOE until September at the earliest and perhaps more likely in October so the commute could be as short as 1-2 months. If your timing is right after the bid is run you can add about 3 months to theses estimates.

Just to clarify, the bids are now multi month bids. The next one will likely come out late Sept, close early Oct with results posted a couple weeks later. Bids could be effective Jan, Feb, OR Mar. (assuming they follow what they've been doing the last few bids).

I think the union is fighting this. I think we were all blindsided by the 3 month spread of assignments. It is better to hold the company to a single assignment month. Then if they need to fill other vacancies, they can run additional ones.

Just to clarify...my above statement has nothing to do with the current situation. It probably won’t change for awhile if ever. I just thought it was interesting.
