Default Military Leave and MO

Debating bidding to a more junior base then mil drop a majority (maybe all) trips and MO at a more senior base closer to my home. Anyone out there having any luck with this strategy? Any rules or limitations that would be a factor?

Please PM if you would prefer not to give away all your secrets.

Am I reading this right? You want to use “military drop” as a reason to drop trips all your trips at the junior base you don’t want to commute to so you can pick up trips at the more senior base close to home? I’m not familiar with the code MO.

Out of base MU. I hope it’s gone in the next contract.

Exactly. MO is the code for out of base makeup. Plan would be to mil drop trips at the junior base then MO at a more senior base. I can’t find anything in the company rules or contract that would restrict that.

There’s nothing that restricts it. Do what you want. Just don’t be surprised when your fellow pilots call the chiefs and complain when they are constantly flying your trips. How’s your conversation going to go with the chiefs and APA Mil affairs chairman (who’s an active reserve two star btw) when they go through your HI1 and pick apart your attendance history?

Don’t think it’s happened?

I’m not trying to be a Richard, but please don’t make it harder on the rest of us. AA is VERY GOOD about mil leave - let’s keep it that way. Remember, this is the ‘rest of your life’ job.

Thanks for the insight. Point taken. Thought I’d figured out quite the niche.

Please just don't... I completely agree with Cheddar, please don't make it harder for the rest of us by bending the rules and taking advantage of the system. Putting yourself in that position isn't a good idea either... I don't think it'll be a good conversation with the CPO and you may not have a ton of support from the Union/Mil Affairs pulling that.

I'm guessing this happens a lot more than you'd think. He's not the first to think of it and we hire a lot of ex mil.

I'm not familiar with mil drop but I'm amazed you can do it for no reason.

Please don’t do this. The vast majority of military reservists at AA are doing the “right” thing. The (very) few who may be abusing the system don’t represent the vast majority who are balancing a dynamic and challenging second job for purely altruistic purposes. Let’s not give more ammo to those who already have disdain for reserve service members.
