Had 4 Eagle pilots on D1's ahead of me and the wife returning from a European destination last week. Smallest group or not, they're obviously using the benefit just like everyone else. We barely made it on. That's ok. I'm sure one day I'll want to D1 the family to Chattanooga and get to nonrev on some Eagle metal.

But... to answer your question, I have the luxury of living in base so I can honestly say that I'd probably rarely ever nonrev on an Eagle flight to a destination I'd vacation in. Maybe to somewhere in the Caribbean from a connection out of MIA, but other than that, key destinations are mostly served by mainline. Anything closer would probably be a roadtrip for us.
Anyway, from my experience with a trip to Europe, out of a list a 20+ nonrevs, a good quarter of them didn't show up to include 2 or 3 D1's. Non of them cancelled to take themselves off the priority list.
I was really disappointed with AA on our recent trip to MAD. The gate and customer service agents there had to be the rudest individuals I have delt with at this company since working here to the point I contemplate writing an email to the base manager. It was uncalled for and while it was obvious they hate nonrevers there, I witnessed them giving paying customers attitude. I'd like to say they were having a bad day, but we witnessed it two days in a row from the same people, both with us and others. My wife speaks fluent Spanish, so there definitely wasn't a language barrier. The operation there seemed to be dysfuntional and they are short with everyone. Of course as a nonrever I had to shut up and color in fear I wouldn't get a seat assignment, but if I had been on a paid ticket, I would have let one particular agent have it good for his behavior. Anyone else have that experience there?

check out some of the travel blogs (e.g. Flyertalk)
there are LOTS of complaints about the TERRIBLE customer service by MIA AA employees.
Wife and I personally had a very poor experience on a paid business class ticket from a MIA based FA.

My apologies if we are talking A1.

Mainline doesn't fly to most of the military outstations that 'AA' serves, resulting in eagle bringing a lot of former mil pilots to work their mainline jobs every single day.
I don't like the system either, but all groups benefit from it, even if you personally do not.

I must be missing the point. You're complaining that eagle pilots D1 to Europe, even though Eagle doesn't fly there?

Speaking of nonrevs on my commute today the mom fell asleep and her kids used cell phones without headphones to play games the whole time. This is the issue with letting literally everyone at the company nonrev with impunity. These were not well dressed people, I know this makes me a dick but they were on the lower end of society.
