“You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before”

Rahm Emanuel

Good luck negotiators.

I don’t think it will be 2 weeks, but this “crisis” will pass, the markets will stabilize, and life will go on. Except, the company will use this for 5 years as a negotiating tactic.

So you’d rather us do the United reaction. You know canceling new hire classes (one just 3 days before they were supposed to arrive!), canceling all upgrade and transition bids that just were awarded, giving out no fly pay lines, offering unpaid leave of absence. You mean like that kind stuff, that’s what AA should do? Cause I actually the like the slow approach on this one. Just saying.

i love the new tag line going around of “this could be worse then 9/11”. Give an f’ing break you capitalist on a minimal crisis. It’s all noise in their favor they are going to exploit to the fullest. Until 1 billion people have the illness, you can shove it media, political and scumbag execs.

Confirmed cases: 114,422 (about the size of Savannah GA)

World population: 7,530,000,000 approximately

or for math people: 0.000015256266667 of the world infected approximately

I’m not saying to not be cautious, but this panic is completely unnecessary and only makes it worse than what it really is. Let’s not fall into the trap ourselves. In the meantime, I’m gonna try to go and find something to wipe with since TP is all gone thanks to the doomsday panic.
CDC recommended today everyone over 60 stay home and not go out in public.

We have ~3500 pilots alone over the age of 60. How about our FAs? Mechanics?

I'm not sure where you are getting your info as far as it not being as deadly as the flu. It is about 15x-20x as deadly. It hasn't had enough time to spread here yet. The surgeon general stated today that they've basically given up on containment.

Wait, we have a surgeon general....

I assumed that was a vacant position, or an “acting” appointment of some flunky subordinate, third stringer/relative?!

AA and DA have thus far been relatively quiet. I’m sure that will change as events unfold this week.
I can't watch it live but AA will be presenting at this conference tomorrow:

Round numbers from CDC reports: 113,000 worldwide infections. 4,009 deaths. That's a whopping 3.5% fatality rate. Global population is 7.8B; meaning 0.00145% of the world has been infected and 0.0000514% have actually died from it...the sky is not falling... everyone needs to calm down, be normal and practice good hygiene. Chances of contracting anything are reduced. And if you don't think the panic hungry media isn't, I saw a 30 sec bit on how homeless people are twice as likely to contract coronavirus. Really? You don't say. A person who is malnutritioned, has poor hygiene, and has a lack of shelter from the elements is suceptible, gee thanks. Completely pointless, not news, but they can't have 30 seconds without the word Coronavirus spouting panic. I hope for everyone the world's doctors create a vaccine to prevent further deaths and this will simply become seasonal or go away all together. Not be the end of the world, pandemic, zombie apocolypse CNN wants it to be.

In order to slow the spread China locked 50(?) million people in their homes. That is 1/7 the population of the US.

Today Italy has mandated quarantine for its entire country.

Maybe you shouldn't be so cocky.

Do a google search, pick your source. Many articles explaining how flu deaths far eclipse Covid-19.

I don't think anyone is saying this is a zombie apocalypse. But its effects on our industry appear to combine 9/11 with the Great Recession.

I feel like you are not accurately understanding how the spread of disease works.
