to say United is more Fd is funny. We’re all on a bus headed off a cliff but the guy in the front row will hit the ground first.
He did not say United was “more”. He said “right now“. I love the banter that is now ‘well your company is worse then mine, stick your head in do-do’ approach people are picking up as some sort of justification as to who they work for is better.

As someone else said, we are all F’d.

and this is a great leverage move by United first. They announce massive cuts, then go to the union/pilots and say ‘we can save a lot of jobs if you give up pay, benefits, all these QOL items......(and with Scott Kirby loving RJ’s) as much Scope as possible’. It’s a rinse repeat move. It just now depends on what United Pilots will give up to save jobs. I’d say do as much as you can, but don’t sell the Farm. All the airlines are going to play this game, none is better off then another. Maybe SWA, cause Scope probably won’t be a issue

Of course they’re coming to all airlines. But from the looks of it now United pilots unfortunately look like they are in the worst position staffing wise compared to AA and maybe DL too.

I hope all of our positions improve soon.

I’m not giving up a dime to save furloughs. It isn’t because I don’t want to help our furloughed out (I’ll gladly donate to whatever furlough fund we setup). I’m not voting to give an inch as it will do nothing to help offset pilot job losses. The airline (I’m United BTW) will staff the airline as it sees fit. Nothing we do will change that and I’ll be dammed if I vote to give up any of the ancillary benefits we have negotiated over the years. This displacement notice today was done by the book and the company used the contract to its most extreme extent. I plan to do the same every day I show up to work going forward as well.

I choose my words carefully, MoP. I specifically said “right now” as I am aware of our economic position. Their displacement bid is indicative of the state of industry. I have a lot of friends at every airline. Squadron mates that I have been with for going on 15 and some 20 years. I don’t wish ill upon any pilot out there. I think furloughs are inevitable for UAL at this point, nearly inevitably for DAL and probably (not inevitable) for AA. I might have been on the UAL chopping block, or the DAL plug had it not been for timing of job offers, so slow your reading and don’t let the obsession of your perception cloud the reading and interpretation of other’s posts.

Just wait until the hammer drops at AA. Our current management team has been behind the power curve since the day they have arrived. They’ve never lead anything (well except their diversity campaign).

While Munoz and Kirby are dealing with reality (UAL pilots don’t like, it but at least they are being transparent about the massive cuts that are forthcoming) the AA CEO put out a video this week that his “intention” is to not furlough anyone (not just pilots) during this downturn. Really? Does anyone but him
really believe we are going to come through the largest downturn in the history of aviation with zero furloughs?

This is the same guy who said we will never lose money again and who said he doesn’t believe in variable compensation (profit sharing) for employees while he was designing and instituting a variable compensation plan for his managers.

At AA there is a group of pilots known as “ below the line”. They are the pilots who were hired after the US/AWA merge (around 2008). They have banded together and formed a Facebook group that only they can join. If you were hired before them your not allowed to be part of their group. They have established that others are not welcome.

Ironically what is getting ready to happen at AA is the same thing that has been announced at UAL. That which Parker is misleading everyone at AA about, furloughs. Who will those furloughs be, the “below the line group”. There are nearly 4,000 of them. Fortunately for them AA has massive retirements forthcoming. Otherwise, most (not all) would be gone in the next 18 months.

The real irony is that this group has segregated themselves from the mantra of unionism, of us all being together fighting for a common cause. They presented themselves as a separate group, excluding the other 11,000 pilots from their inner circle. Now when the hammer soon drops these same exclusive pilots will want those they excluded to save them. How? Pay cuts, reduced hours, no premium flying, etc.

So while our brethren at UAL received an unfortunate massive displacement bid today they at least see the future. Something our CEO doesn’t have the foresight to admit to and our “below the line” pilots have no real idea what’s getting ready to occur to them because they are being mislead. Their CEO is not only incapable of saving them, he can’t even come to the reality of being honest to them.

So when they are furloughed I wonder how many of the “above the line pilots” will be willing to give up their pay, hours, and premium pay to save those that excluded them from being part of their inner circle?

I realize this will cause huge debate, but everyone needs to deal with the reality of the situation. This downturn surpasses every previous downturn since commercial aviation began. Unless there is some immediate miracle COVID-19 vaccine that comes out in the next 6 months, this is going to get ugly for everyone.

No above the line pilots will be willing to give up anything, they’ve given for the past 20 years. If you don’t believe me ask your CA on your next trip how much of a pay cut he will be willing to take to save furloughs.

Unfortunately, furloughs are a part of aviation. They’ve occurred every decade for the past 70 years. They are coming. I don’t care what Parker is saying. Remember the things he said in the past. Get prepared.

I agree with this ... I would do the same. I’d rather keep the hourly rate and work less hours per month rather then give a pay cut. That should be the focus. If you take a pay cut on the hourly rate it will take years to get it back.
IMO I just don’t see 4k furloughs at UAL...AA furloughed 3k after 9/11 and it took 3 yrs to do it. The training cycles would be to much. Then combined a unknown demand recovery by passengers.
But just like Al said “ we’re all f@&$k!”
