Quote: I think he's trolling. Alaska is considered a legacy carrier for heavens sake. I always think of Alaska as the Moss Adams of airlines. Great firm focused on the west coast.
Sorry but I left Alaska after 3 years. That place is not what people think it is. Good bunch of pilots but when it comes to management and the contract it is a hot pile of a mess. Regionals have a better contract than Alaska frankly. It is a "legacy" with a regional mentality who thinks that their **** don't stink.

Are you sure you're not describing American?

Yeah, some airlines have a this God like reputation from outsiders that they don't deserve. Alaska and JetBlue are the worst offenders. And up until the Rona hit, Below the Liners had a weird obsession with Delta. Now that airline is seeing the backfire from throwing so much money around for so long. You think AA was careless with money? Delta took it to a new level. LATAM, anyone? How much money did Delta burn on that one just months before all this hit.

1.9 billion on LATAM. 1.6 billion on profit sharing.

Guess who didn't lose any money? The people who didn't have any to invest, or who were too busy trying to boost their price with buybacks.

And how much is LATAM worth now? Delta also gobbled up stakes in other airlines in the recent few years...on top of the stock buy backs they also did. They aren't saints, either.

Their exposure is INCREDIBLE. I’m not sure people really appreciate how bad things are for delta due to their airline shopping spree...

They own 9% of Air France
51% of Aeromexico
7% of China Eastern
9% of GOL 10% of Korean Air
20% of LATAM
and 49% of Virgin Atlantic

Not to mention they’re closely partnered with Virgin Australia and westjet.

thats a hammerin’ on multiple fronts

Exactly the point I was making. I don't think enough people know about Delta's shopping spree either. They also overhired for the past few years in anticipation of a pilot shortage. In short, Delta went full throttle on the bet that we would have the bluest skies and strongest tail winds for the next 20 years. A crazy gamble by any measure..and even more boneheaded now in hindsight.

We were understaffed by roughly 1,000 pilots last summer and we were headed into this summer 600 pilots short. Last summer we actually cancelled flights due to pilot shortages. Also, last summer many guys were crediting 120+ hrs and reserves were used and abused daily. So, no. Not overstaffed in the least. Last summer was fricken brutal.
