There are studies that just came out that show that anywhere from 30-60% of the population has been infected with coronavirus and do not know it because they had no symptoms and were not tested. That puts the death rate less than 1%, on par or less than the common flu.

The flu death rate is no where near 1%. If you had happened to click that link, the daily death rate from COVID has become way higher than any other cause. The deaths caused by COVID are also being under reported. This is WITH all these policies to mitigate transmission and the health industry focusing incredible amounts of staff and material on it.

When news of the virus first started making waves, many people were comparing it to the flu. Hey, the flu kills X amount of people a year, why are we making such a big deal. Hey, X amount of people get killed walking across the street every day, why are we making such a big deal. Even in the early days of the virus, it seemed silly to make such comparisons. There wasn't enough data for one and another, would the world really start such upheaval for something that wasn't such a big deal?

Oh yes, it was a conspiracy to make Trump look bad or some other political stunt (except it was happening worldwide, not just in the US).


NOW, we are still comparing COVID-19 to the flu? Are you serious? This isn't some political stunt or a crazy worldwide over-reaction. Based on 2018-2019 CDC info, around 35.5 million people had the flu. Of those, approximately 34,200 people died. That's a .096% death rate. Even if some new studies show a large number of people have had COVID-19 and it wasn't reported (which someone already posted the Fauci has no indication that numbers are not in the ballpark), COVID would still be probably 30-40X more deadly than the flu.


This is of course after all the social distancing and shutdown of basically everything. Think what things would be like if we weren't "flattening the curve". I just laugh at people that still think this whole deal is nothing to worry about. Sure, the world isn't going to end and most young people will/would survive, but it isn't "like the flu".

I’m not disputing the likelihood that it’s much more prevalent than previously thought, just the WAG of 30-60% (a small sample size of 200 in a very localized area isn’t an accurate representation, nor is a US Navy carrier.)

Antibody testing needs to be not only widespread and easily available, but done in a uniform and organized manner (this is where LEADERSHIP comes into place, something severely lacking in this world at the highest levels.)

The death rate is missing the forest for the trees. The forest is how virulently it spreads and its ability to completely overwhelm a healthcare system. Lots of collateral damage occurs that way - heart attack, no bed. Fall off the roof, no bed. On chemo in the cancer ward? Good luck if you’re infected. Doctors and nurses dying of being infected a la Italy. It’s not just about keeping grandma and grandpa isolated and safe at home.
