Got the invite and scheduled a day. Now crickets. Did the workplace traits thing as well.

How long have the follow ups been for everyone?

You’ll eventually get a follow-up email with some more information. Took a week or so, if I recall correctly.

It’s been 3 weeks actually. Maybe they changed their mind.

Got my invite almost three weeks ago, chose Jan 11, I haven’t heard anything yet.

I’ll be at the January 11th date as well. Since picking that date a couple weeks ago, I have not heard anything since. I don’t think I expect to until airline and hotel bookings, though.

Anyone know the total hires this year so far? I think there is 1 more class. Just honestly being lazy and not going through all the drops…

blackbox348 12-15-2021 01:09 PM

I resigned from a Wholly Owned a couple years back, had some family stuff I had to deal with, clean PRIA. Do they/can they request any more info from the wholly owned other than the PRIA and Drug/Alcohol testing stuff for a street hire? My buddy said they can pull an HI10.

Even for a street hire? Am I going to have to explain sick calls and a PW from 2015? Lol

2-4 weeks right now I believe

FlannelDaddy 12-17-2021 05:51 PM

Hey, I'm just curious do a lot of wholly owned eagle pilots get hired here outside of the flow?

Some do but unless they’re related to an AA pilot, it’s historically been fairly rare. Far more of the AA wholly owned pilots end up getting hired at other majors.

Lately the trend is 3-4 times the number of WO pilots going to AA (via the flow and OTS hiring outside the flow) are leaving for other airlines while seats in classes at AA go unfilled.

Yes, plenty do

ALPA puts out the data. It's in the single digit percents. "Plenty" huh?

If AA is your goal, going to Spirit or jetBlue or ACMI seems to be the fastest way to get there from a WO. More pilots getting hired that way.

That's kind of what it looks like from my end too. I'm a CA at one of the WO and have my app in. I know I'm probably not the most competitive candidate yet considering the competition, but it did look like few of our guys get on outside the flow.

Some do get hired. Keeping your APP updated, becoming as competitive as possible and attending job fairs might just get you that invitation.

How long are people getting the calls for class? Is it about a 2 weeks notice or potentially less? Excited to get a date

I had about 35 hours of 121 and a new B737 type rating at a LCC before getting an interview invite with AA and DL. Several other in my class are in a similar spot. Your point definitely lines up with what I'm seeing

I’ve heard 2-4 weeks, however I would imagine there would be a slight bottle neck with the holidays. I’ve also been told if you get the CJO you have the option to start class before your background checks clears or you can check a box to start once your background check has been completed.

Its been getting less and less rare, especially the last couple months. I know some eagle guys who signed up for that bonus then got hired here without any relatives. Cha Ching!

Anyone know people with low time, less than or around 2000 hrs, who have gotten a call?

Sure. Quite a few.

As long as that 2000 hours are in single seat fighters with a pointy nose out front, that should be plenty of time.

I’m just over 2k and have been fortunate enough to have an interview for DL and AA both coming up.

2000ish TT 1300 Turbine MEL 750 PIC

USAF C17 and working at a 121 LCC

I have a few internal recs though which i’m sure helped big time

Outside of military, mil/121 combo, females and minorities I personally don't of anyone at or under 2000. But that could change in the coming months or years. No matter what anyone's numbers, apply.

12/7 interview and 1/5 class. Just confirmed today. Seems like I was one of the earlier ones in my interview group to get class date.

Was that with the background check completed? Any idea on how long those take?

I interviewed on 11/18 and got the CJO, and I was not given an option to check about the background checks, the only question asked was when are you ready to start.

That is new. Started a couple weeks ago.

Yup. Everything for me is complete. I even chose the option to wait until everything was complete before starting, class just in case.

I have heard of people not being offered the CJO at the interview, but getting one a week or two later. Did these people not quite meet the metrics or were borderline and had to be decided by the review board? Or was there some other hiccup?

blulavboy 12-22-2021 03:56 PM

Two quickies for those in the know please...
1) Has there been many newbies hired not coming from the WO pipeline?
2) Age wise, has anyone noticed anyone being hired in their 50s....
Thanks!

AllYourBaseAreB 12-22-2021 06:33 PM

1. It happens, define “many”
2. The last class had 13 people over 50

I think it’s mostly paperwork but it can also be a borderline situation where further review needs to take place.

No idea really, just wondering if there's ANY folks coming over that aren't from the WO side? If they're running with 70 or 80 per class, just a rough number would be nice to know, thanks!

AA and APA haven’t published any rough numbers yet. Anecdotally, the new hire classes have had a bunch of mil backgrounds, and quite a few from other airlines, SWA in particular.

Only 31 per month, not class, from flow of WOs. Military, non-WO regional pilots, some 135/91, then maybe a select few WO outside the flow. With about 180 new hires per month in 2022 the easiest way to get to American is not at a WO Regional.

United on the other hand is scooping up every eligible WO CA that applies and gets through the Hogan…. LOL…
