The 10th guy should get one too once some paperwork clears up. 6 were Regionals, 4 mil. They said if you didn't get CJO day of, it's because they needed to finalize paperwork that would take additional time. No reason to panic. Basically, the only way you wouldn't get a CJO is if you threw up on their table. I mean if you were sick, they might understand...

Thanks! Any idea what the paperwork issues could be so those of us come prepared?

I don't know, they never gave us any details. It's nothing you can do as a candidate. No issues for mil guys, if that means anything.

How long on average now when you apply they call or email back?

I suppose that depends on your qualifications…

Fly4FunAA 12-11-2021 08:34 PM

Has anyone gotten a call/interview with around 2000 hrs? I’m a mil guy with not much total time and no turbine PIC.

as you may know, other "out of the box thinkers" proposed air to air refueling at AA once

yes, I am serious

the good idea fairy, what do they say about that person

I had started applying in August again. Didn’t update since then and got the email invite late November on a Saturday. I certainly didn’t expect a call. If it were only this easy 4-5 years ago. :)

probably PRIA stuff. I’m hearing from a couple buddies at one or 2 regionals that their companies are dragging their feet on this stuff, they are bleeding and that is at least a temporary band aid

blackbox348 12-12-2021 05:47 PM

There’s the PRIA forms on the pilot credentials website, but no instructions. Are we just supposed to bring them with us?

Yes you are supposed to bring them properly filled out.

The instructions are on the PRIA forms.

What is the average total time people are getting interviews with? Any low time getting interviews?

RJfarts 12-13-2021 05:03 AM

Has there been a trend for how many internal recommendations it takes to get an interview?

CabbiInbound 12-13-2021 08:26 AM

I had just one internal.

One internal as well. Mil RW background with 5500 TT and virtually zero FW turbine PIC.

JetKid5 12-13-2021 09:12 AM

How are they with checkride failures? I bunked my oral and flight on my initial ATP at a defunct uncle Hula’s regional in STL 6 years ago. Three types, check airman, sim instructor, no failures since then, no failures before then. Checked the box on the app, still got an interview. One internal rec.

Seriously?

Was hoping the RTP guys would do some time at the regionals learning how to fly airplanes before they came to AA.

JFC. That's scary ****. Those guys are 50/50 trying to kill you or decent. 50% of that mix also had PTSD.

2000 of those hours are regional and LCC SIC… RTP wasn’t a thing when I left the military. Keep those spears coming, though. As for the PTSD comment, that’s just ignorant. I understand the animosity, I suppose, but I’ve paid my dues just like anyone else. Looking forward to the interview. Hopefully I can keep the PTSD at bay!

The "trying to kill you" is the funny part. 100% of all pilots convicted of triple murder in the last decade were RTP pilots. 100%.

What’s an RTP pilot?

Rotary Transition Program. Military helicopter pathway to the regionals where they pay for your ratings with the help of the GI Bill.

It's not animosity. Before i left PSA, they hired 100s of "low time" helo pilots. Got them the ratings, etc. They were a mixed bag but the inexperience and different kind of flying they were accustomed to didn't mesh well.

As for the PTSD, at least half of them had a disturbing sense of humor about the death of their friends, or the enemy. And had the alcohol abuse thing totally under control. Flew with one who downed a 750 3 nights in a row. Last day I suggested hims for the guy. Again, it wasn't all of them but enough of them to leave an impression.

And less than half actually passed training, so that was good.

The first page or two of every form has detailed instructions on how to fill them out. Bring them with you to the interview. Make sure you get the Driving Records on notarized.

Question

Hey guys... Quick question.

I'm a mil fighter pilot in a foreign AF, with around 1500 TT FW. I don't have the right to work in the US yet, but I can get a GreenCard in a 2y span. Any chance I could land a job at the big 3 or would I need to pay my due in the regionals first? I heard AA was offering start date in the next 2 years for US mil guys, but I don't know how they feel about foreign ones.

Sorry if the question sounds stupid, but I'm looking forward to hear the opinions of you guys, who certainly have much more knowledge about the career in the US than I do.

I'm at 3.7k with 1.3 jet PIC. No failures. 2 internals. All 135 and 121.

Do you have an ATP in the US? Are you eligible for ATP (1500 hours, but do you meet all of the other requirements for it?).

I have an ICAO ATPL and all the requirements for an FAA ATP, I would only need a quick conversion package to get FAA ATP.

My biggest concern is this: would I be asking too much if I applied for a job at AA without a work visa, in the hope of getting a CJO with a 2y later start date?

Is it worth a shot or probably I shouldn't bother before getting the Greencard + FAA ATP?

not sure what you mean by start dates in the next 2 years. Dudes I know have all been getting calls closer to a few months out.

it doesn't hurt to try...they might reach out to you then and tell you what you need to accomplish before they can "hire" you...Now is as good of time as any in history to try and land a job with a US major airline...5 years ago they would probably just flip past your application, today, not so much...I dont have any of the specific answers you are seeking but maybe an email or phone call to someone in the AA pilot recruitment office could help a lot....

I think I might do just that.

Thanks!

Regarding the same topic, have AA recently hired foreign pilots with greencard and FAA ATP on hand? Just asking if there is any chance, planning to move in Jan 22 !
TT +4200, previous airline experience, +2200 ICAO PIC on turboprop , got recenty my FAA ATP +320 Rating , bachelor and master degree , 0 hours on 121.
TIA!

AllYourBaseAreB 12-14-2021 07:02 PM

Yeah, if you have a green card, you’re fine

most job applications have some very basic hr screening questions
1) are you currently incarcerated
2) do you hold a first class faa medical
3) do you have a right to work in the US

without a green card and an faa atp … even if the process to obtain them is trivial… the computer will probably hold your app hostage.

Pick the earliest date and do everything possible to get that day off, legally of course. Trade, drop, swap, call in a favor, CP request etc

If you wait until the 18th you may only have one date left to choose from anyways. I’d grab one now.

AllYourBaseAreB 12-15-2021 08:19 AM

Do it now. You could easily gain dozens of numbers of seniority by being in an earlier class
