Once you get the interview, stop updating it. They may think that you are making bigger changes. If it is just 100 or less flight hours, it isn't a big deal at all.

That's how I've treated past interviews but when I got the in-person invite they added:

"You should have access to input additional information and, please, continue to update changes to your application."

So I've been keeping it more up-to-date than I normally would after getting the invite, I may just be overthinking it as the date gets closer.

MCDUmanipulator 03-20-2023 02:57 PM

I’m updating flight hours until I print my log book.

You need to print it. We had one guy who brought an iPad. It didn't go over very well.

Must be printed and all pages signed.

My plan is to bring all my original paper logs and a fully signed printout of when I digitized everything. My paper is probably good on its own but you can’t beat a digital log’s ability to look neat and provide accurate totals.

Skycakes 03-20-2023 06:41 PM

I'm a little confused on the "flight records" portion of it.
Can you guy clarify?
Flight logs as in do they want all the Part 135 flight logs which the company typically keeps (typically White copy to the aircraft, Pink to accounting and Yellow to maintenance.)

If so, uh-oh. I haven't been making copies of these the last six years. I'm civilian corporate pilot. I just fill out my log book in typical fashion and put the times in. I know its on the "honor system" but if I fly like a 3,000 hour pilot then I would think they know I didn't pencil whip.

So what exactly do they mean they want all the flight logs... If so I'm in trouble.

I think you're ok with whatever form of a logbook that is kept professionally and signed. If it's digital, print it into a nice binder and sign every page.

I'm corporate too. I keep all of my monthly duty-logs that are dispersed from my current company, which keep convenient columns like any logbook page. I also have a digital logbook of my entire history for redundancy and simple totaling. I've worked for a 135 outfit that used paper duty logs and never shared copies to the pilots so I wrote everything in my paper logbook and added it to my digital one later. Granted, this is my first legacy interview but every other 121 I've interviewed with liked my logs.

Thanks,

If you're military only with no previous air carrier experience they don't need any PRIA forms. Just bring your military flight records (green monster folder if you're Air Force, with a summary page and your Air Force FEF)

Hey fellas, just wondering if there's any common errors to avoid on American's Pilot Credentials? I was told not to put abbreviations for addresses. Anything else to do/not do that may affect getting your app looked at?

Absolutely no gaps in your history. Explain any periods of unemployment.

So that'why they never called. I put Rd... Should have been Road. DAMN!

Well that's what one buddy told me... take it with a grain of salt. I did update all my addresses to be safe but I don't know if it matters.

That's bad Intel. My app literally had "Rd" for my street suffix and didn't have any issues or comments.

Attention to details matters, IMO use the same format addresses on each field, same with telephone numbers, grammar, punctuation and of course being consistence in terms of employment/school/unemployment periods.

There isn’t even a place in Pilot Credentials that allows you to explain that kind of thing so…

I don't really have what I'd call real gaps but I think it's easy to see how this works. If you have a job you entered that ended on Jan 2011 and you don't have any other job covering the period from Jan 2011 to say July 2013, you have a gap that needs to be filled. I'd create a "job" for the application from Jan 2011 to July 2013 (or maybe multiple if makes sense) with a title "unemployed" (or something similar) and in the job description describe what you did during this time.

I do have a period where I was legitimately self-employed. I did a number of different flying jobs during this time and it occured to me when I entered that info that it might come across as "filling a gap" of unemployment... another way to look at it. They want a continuous stream of info on what you've been up to over the course of your life.

I think all these online apps work this way.

They could care less about periods of unemployment. Exactly as you said, if you were not in school or working just list those open dates as unemployed. Again non of the hiring departments care, they just want to make sure you’re not trying to hide your employment history.

What they care about is those gaps in employment dates not being gaps in employment because you were in new hire class and failed out then decided to just not list that 3 month gap. It’s crazy some of the stuff applicants won’t expose in the applications because it “didn’t specifically ask that question” but then decide to drop the bombshell during the interview lol.

That’s why Delta questions for their application will ask about alcohol violations several different ways. Just asking, “do you have any incidents involving alcohol?” Wasn’t clear enough for some pilot applicants until their background check pulled up some cringeworthy history “they forgot about” or “I didn’t think that’s what the question meant because it was so vague”.

Lmao. When I had my Delta airline apps reviewed they told me to spell out the streets. I just transferred all that awesome knowledge to pilot credentials.

I was told something similar. Except it was make sure they are all formatted the same way. If one is abbreviated, then all should be. Or vice-versa.

I went in and updated all of mine to be the same, and less than 2 weeks later, I was contacted by AA,UA, and SW (all in the same week). My apps had been in for 6 months by this point. It could be just pure coincidence. Probably is.

anybody know how long after being sent to the review board will you get a response?

Dr Bromus 03-24-2023 09:33 AM

Eligibility Date ?

Long time lurker. Thanks for all the great info sharing on here.
I’ve got an October 2023 availability date. How far out from availability are they looking to interview? I know they are sitting on a ton of apps right now and I’m sure it’s a lot to go through. My apps been in for a couple months now. Trying not to over think it and be patient, but want to make sure its not me.

I’m retiring from USAF, no red flags (that I know of..), some nice recommendations, and meet all the requirements.
Anybody have a similar experience?

Thanks again to all.

If you haven’t attended any events (Meet the Chiefs, NGPA, WIA, RTAG, etc) then you need to attend one. You get to speak with a current pilot and then with an HR rep who will also review your app and suggest corrections or anything else you may need to stand out. It will get you on their radar. HR literally said this.

I was selected at NGPA last month for interview and received an on the spot CJO after attending only one MTC’s event in January. A military guy I interviewed with also received a CJO there and his availability wasn’t until next year. So it looks like it doesn’t matter what your availability is.

TPNX is the next event in Orlando April 21 & 22nd. You should try to attend and set up a meet with American.

Thanks for the advice. I just signed up for TPNX and requested a slot with the AA team. I bought tickets for Friday only, would you recommend being available both days?

Probably just the one day is fine but be prepared as you could possible be called for an on the spot interview that day or the next.

At NGPA, I only scheduled to attend the first day but later that afternoon I got the call for an interview the next morning. I heard another pilot had already flown back to LA and got the same call. He turned around and headed back. No way to know if you will get the call though, so be flexible.

I submitted June 2022 and didn't hear anything till March 2023. Available May 2023. Also retiring mil. Did not attend any events. I had stopped updating my app assuming I failed their AON assessment and they cold called me.

You don't HAVE TO attend any events, especially with military background and internal recs. Events won't hurt and might get you an interview sooner. Either way, update your app, publish your app (ASAP if it's not published already) and you will get the call/email even with an October availability (my mil buddy has a summer availability and already interviewed/CJOed several months ago). Good luck!

So the interview date is closing fast and I’ve gotten my non-rev travel from AA, but still haven’t seen any hotel yet. I just want to confirm that interviewees do in fact get a paid hotel, otherwise I’ll need to hop on some site and get a room asap

Yes you get a hotel. Reach out to your recruiter and ask. Mine popped up a couple days prior
