Yes, they are contractually required to run three per year so I would expect another one effective in December.

should be, in order to meet the 3 per year requirement...this one was Oct 2021, so naturally it would be either a NOV or DEC 2021 vacancy....if the EU opening up to non essential US travelers triggers a good uptick in widebody demand I would expect the next one to be a good one in order to start aligning the pilot workforce to meet that demand for summer 2022, along with another one or two in early 2022. Fall/winter 2021 business travel will be interesting to watch as well.

Effective in December or just a vacancy bid out by December?

I know I was the one to ask the question, but it would have to be effective in 2021 to meet the contractual requirement. Just didn't know how many we had this year already

Yep they must be effective in 2021. I say December, but it could be a November bid…I only guessed December because they’d want to spread the training out.

No crystal ball here, but it past precedence is any indicator, I’d expect bids effective in December, then probably Feb/Mar and then another effective May/June to prep for summer flying.

Is the number of unfilled FO vacancies close to the ~300 AA was planning to hire for this year? And mostly LAX/LGA with a scattering of other bases?

We don’t get accurate/meaningful vacancy numbers to determine anything useful for the future, much less bidding on the current vacancy.

Partly why it takes so long to publish results. The list of vacancies is outdated the second it is published. The awards are manipulated hundreds of times to find the least impact to training and coverage during the 2-3 weeks after bidding closes

“We may or may not have openings. Bid what ya’ll want and we’ll see how things shake out.”
