Another concern came up is having to cover 3 airports if based in LGA as a newhire. Is that accurate? How is it possible on year one pay when one-way Uber ride is around 100$ in that area? Does AA help with commuting costs at all?

Thanks again for the input!

EWR and JFK and served by trains. LGA has pretty good bus connections from the train too. If you spend $100 on Ubers you’re doing it wrong. The only issue is the early morning trips out of EWR.

Hopefully all this co-Base stuff is being addressed in negotiations……

More like lack of situational awareness of what the A/Ts were doing (Hold mode).

So, looking at the class drops, for someone who wants to get on the Bus, what are the Pros and Cons of LAX vs LGA as a new hire who’d be commuting?

I know that LGA means you’re covering JFK/LGA/EWR, and LAX I believe is LAX/SNA/SAN?

Ultimate goal is getting back to CLT, but my gut instinct is doing some West Coast / HI flying to start could be fun.

Training is so bottled necke, you'll probably never get a HI qual unless you're LAX for a long time.

Apple maps will hold your hand and tell you exactly where to go. Just type in the 3 letter airport identifier and click the picture of the train. No more questions asked.

What is a typical 787 FO schedule like? Does international go junior or senior? How many days off can you get approximately on the widebody? Do you get called often on reserve?

Again, this is for someone who is aspiring to fly 787 someday, and is making a strategic decision to go to a company that has 787 fleet, with a potential to fly one day.

Thanks!

at the moment they aren’t that good. AA doesn’t have much long range flying so the 4 pilot trips go extremely senior. With less than 20 years seniority you will likely get 21 hour 4 day trips. Meaning about 14 days off per month. If your friend wants the classic “widebody lifestyle” of 18-20 days off per month they are better off going to United which has a lot more 4 Pilot trips. Or he/she could eventually get their at AAL after a very long wait. The FOs flying the best trips on the 787 at American can often hold Captain on the 787.

Great the regionals all over again for 20 plus years ffs. "Grass never greener on the other side"

I have done NYC and the three airports for over six months now and haven't really had any issues bouncing around the three airports. I am a line holder and used Airbnb instead of a crash pad. Some months I spend a little more, sometimes a little less. Only issue I had with EWR is that you cannot walk to the terminal. I used Uber/Luft the few times I had a trip start out of there. I have seen pilots use shuttles, not sure which hotel or parking company. Overall, I had no issues with flying out of three airports. EWR crew room is small, but cozy, LGA sucked (being remodeled), and JFK went from great to a dump (no surprise really).

LGA to EWR commuting tip. Walk to LGA. Jumpseat LGA-BOS on AA then turn around and Jumpseat BOS-EWR on UAL. Free, possible first class seats, total transit time same as ground transportation. Done and verified several times over when I was NY based..
