Not sure I’d go that far. This last vacancy bid that just closed is effective March of 24. If someone is hired in October, they’d have to wait until December or January with an effective date of June (yes it could then be April or May instead, but can’t plan on that). That would be roughly 5-6 months on the line before they’d officially switch. However, someone wanting LGA or MIA could probably get it quickly via mutual base exchange.
It would most certainly be April or May, and training (including IOE) will take at least 3 months. For others, it is much closer to 5 months Someone hired in the first class of October would not be finished with training until after the New Year. At that point, yes, they would likely spend Jan/Feb/Mar based somewhere else. That is absolutely the worst case scenario. This is, of course, dependent on which aircraft they are assigned. If they are assigned to the wrong aircraft, it will be much worse. For instance, if they want to be in ORD but are assigned to the 320. Right now, even after the new hire seat lock is up, it looks like everyone is currently being withheld from any new awards. This can be up to 9 additional months with the new contract where you are stuck somewhere else because you can't be trained on the new airplane you bid. |

Worst case scenario...possibly.

Again, if someone gets a desirable base on the fleet that is in their desired base, they could easily do a mutual base exchange (LGA and MIA had ~25 each trying to actively leave last I checked) and they could easily be in LGA/MIA before they are out of training. Just depends how the cards play out on MBE. |
