As we wait for the Jan 11 drop, can anyone confirm the current wait time from indoc to sim training? When I interviewed in Sep we were told it was 8-10 weeks at that time. Thanks.

Not sure what your question is. Everybody is getting used on the NB side.

Thatsapproved 01-07-2023 05:53 PM

Nah Depends on your base. Im getting NB 2 landings a week.

Current wait is 10-12 weeks. The Bus wait being slightly shorter than the 73. FWIW - actual class dates are about a week later than what we were told to expect during indoc. My indoc was late Oct, told to expect sims last week of Jan, scheduled to start first week of Feb.

Very helpful, thanks!

Anyone know what drop went junior for the Jan 11 class? Assuming LGA 737 D

hercretired 01-11-2023 05:48 PM

junior will always be 737 LGA, period the end

Lots of LGA! It won't be for long, though. Another vacancy announcement should be posted soon and will take effect in September. By the time you finish training, you will only spend a couple of months in NY before going somewhere better.

How senior is CLT on the bus?

Have a class coming and trying to figure out if it’s better to choose the Bus or 737 in CLT.

737 is more junior but about 1/4 the size. You can have both on your first or second vacancy bid.

Motoracing 01-15-2023 01:30 PM

So seniority progression on the Bus in CLT looks better than the 737, If I got this right.

From what he said, I understand that it might be easier to get to CLT earlier if on the 737 but the 320 fleet in CLT is larger, so maybe more movement (relatively speaking).

Motoracing 01-15-2023 03:09 PM

That’s what I understood as well.

ImSoSuss 01-15-2023 03:21 PM

As a current 737 pilot and somebody who has flown the Airbus, do yourself a favor and bid the airbus if both are at your base of choice. Whatever the seniority difference is I am sure it is not great enough to give up that much comfort.

Motoracing 01-15-2023 03:26 PM

Haha … currently have 6.500 hours on the 737NG/MAX and looking forward to make the move to the Bus, if possible.

fastest way back to CLT is the 73

FrankPentangeli 01-15-2023 08:12 PM

What's the fastest way to Dallas for a new guy?

tomorrowland 01-15-2023 10:27 PM

can a new hire get DFW? if not, how long will it take on what equipment?

yes. At worst, 6 months wait. In reality you’ll have at least one shot at a vacancy bid to switch bases before you are out of training

the 11/30 class had 8 get it. The most junior was 40 years old

Agreed and thanks, but that's from a friend; I'm already here. Lots of guppy, too.

I got CLT on the Bus on the first vacancy I was eligible for. A guy junior to me in my new hire class got to CLT before me through a Mutual Base Exchange. A subsequent flow class had CLT vacancies available on a new hire class drop.

Only the first of those scenarios is something you could reasonably plan on.

Quickest base/equipment to hold a line?

Goes back and forth between LGA and MIA for junior LH and it's usually the 737. But it's all relative. Honestly you'll get to where you want in a year, tops. Bid the Bus.

Meh. Reserve isn't bad at all.

just wait until the new reserve computer and assignment system gets activated, it will destroy most of what we like about our current reserve system.

Motoracing 01-19-2023 11:27 AM

I heard from few AA pilots that some senior guys bid reserve and they never get to fly,
So basically spend the whole month on reserve, never fly and every 3 months go to the Sim to do landing recency.
Furthermore, even being on reserve for 3
Months without flying they still get the minimum guarantee.

Does anyone know if that’s true at AA?

Cheers

Definitely not true for NB pilots. Sounds like a WB thing.

dwightkschrute 01-19-2023 11:53 AM

You’ll probably get to CLT in the same vacancy bid no matter what. You’ll probably move up seniority quicker if you’re on the 737. However, having flown both myself, the Airbus is better in almost every facet. The 737 has a better FMS (IMO), can fly higher, and the auto descend VNAV at TOD is great but that’s about it.

Um..no. How could it possibly change things from now? (answer: it won't)

When properly staffed, sort of. It isn't that much time off, but you certainly do not fly every day. There are quite a few senior pilots that bid reserve on 321/737 and fly 40 or fewer hours per month and still get 76 hours. But since we are not staffed properly right now, it is not the case.

With that said, pilots that have a vacation in a month tend to bid reserve because it is the best play.

It’s true for the WB.
