How senior has the Airbus slots been going in class? Seems like there have been alot more of them vs 737 lately. Are the people wanting the 73 been able to get it for the most part?

Airbus is definitely more desirable from those with a choice it seems.

Really been a while since I saw MIA 320 in a drop and that use to be pretty common. I wonder what changed in Miami

End of 2022 we had a tonnn of MIA 320 still in training, not many 737. As of March bud, I think I counted 25 more in training. I bet it’s to catch up on 737 and let the 320 folks be done. Rumor I got from a friend is that March is looking good for MIA 320. Would make sense since the 320 folks should be done.

I think it just goes in cycles. DCA Airbus was almost every class and then it went 3-4 classes without any Airbus slots and now it's back to normal.

Maxxter 02-17-2023 06:13 AM

Yeah LOL. I am sweating here. I want MIA 320 and my class is getting close lol. I have to decide on going right into base on the 737, or commute for a little on the bus. All my friends say to avoid the 737 like the plague lol

If it was me I would commute for a while and take the 320. Good luck

bid the equipment you want. Most likely you’ll be able to base swap or get a vacancy award to get back to MIA. Worst case scenario you commute a month or two. Some pilots commute their entire careers. A couple months is easy peasy.

Generally, I agree with your friends. That said, the MIA 737 flying currently sees far more variety and overnights in the Caribbean and South America than does the 320 if that kind of thing is important to you.

thrust 02-17-2023 06:44 AM

MIA 320 gets way more FLL flying if that matters to you. I don’t track PBI as closely.

FLL! Yassss! lol

Yeah most likely I will go with 320 PHL if no MIA slots

There are more Airbuses at American than 737s so you will see more slots for new-hires. Base first, equipment second. That's how you pick your 4 part status. People who have a choice of aircraft at their base are lucky and will almost always pick the Airbus for obvious reasons already discussed ad nauseam

Motoracing 02-17-2023 12:36 PM

Well, if that helps… I have a coming class in March with AA and 6.500 hours on the B737NG/MAX and I’ll pick (if possible) the Bus no matter what, even if I need to commute for a while (Live in CLT).

I’m sick of that “tuna can” called 737 and the Bus is the way to go from now.

Not that bad, but the crappy part is that if a class junior to you gets a better drop, you're screwed.

Between MIDT and a (roughly) quarterly bid, how exactly is one screwed?

A pilot junior to you gets a base that you want immediately, while you have to wait for the effective date of a quarterly bid.

Actually that helps you for mutual base exchanges because you wouldn’t be the plug

Yeah, assuming someone wants to move from somewhere else to LGA, which I don't think will be the case very often.

Ball’s in Robert’s court. You’ll see how much he values labor. Or, more accurately, Lucretia Guia’s court, since Robert farms out these type of things so he can hide and avoid making tough decisions.

Bump.

Top Men were correct. Both 401k at date of hire and change to new hire pay effective date are both in APA’s updated proposal. See latest Negotiations Update.

“APA doesn’t care about new hires and won’t even ask!” has been completely destroyed.

Encouraging news if actually true. I think that APA doesn't have to use any negotiating capital for this as AA realizes how quickly quality applicants are running out and it will be a war between the top Airlines for the best candidates.

Yep. AA can and should fix those things right now, on their own. Zero requirement for APA to even ask for it. But AA management won’t do anything that makes sense when it comes to “giving” something to the pilots for “free”.

So at least APA has it in the ask.

Can anyone describe to me the difference in flying between the DCA 320s and 737s? Feel free to PM to not hijack the thread.

TIA!

Where can I find Junior FO and CA for PHX? Any insight on upgrade in PHX with so many retirements on the horizon?

Thanks!

Thanks!

junior CA in PHX is <6700 in May.
junior FO is <15000 in June.

junior Captain might drop to 11/12 years next year’s summer bid is my guess. Average about 9% of guys hit age 65 each year over next many years. They are very senior so some might chase the widebodies especially if/when LAX flying comes back. Over 30% can hold DFW 787 on last bid so I feel like most are happy where they are at.

PHX FO can be got in under a year
