Yes, have a few friends in May classes.

Is there a class drop for the first class of April yet?

If you’re expecting to be on the younger side of a new hire class what would you bid for DFW? I’d prefer 320/D

I’ll be relocating to Dallas later this year, but for now I’ll be commuting.

Needabetterjob 03-30-2023 01:52 PM

Is there a class every Wednesday? Or every two weeks?

Most Wednesdays, not all

Wow, that’s insane. I haven’t started sims yet, and I’m almost 60% in LGA. After this, I’ll be close to 50%. Hopefully there’s no more training backlogs.

Well if you’re on the younger side you’ll probably get LGA320. Just try take 320 where it’s easiest commute until you move and transfer bases. Last resort just pick the airframe you want anybase.

that relative “seniority” is an illusion

your actual bidding power will be much lower than that because all those people aren’t trained when you show up in base. There is still great movement up, but most of it off the bottom.

Yeah, sure, but ~20 per week are coming in under me every week. Makes commuting a little easier to stomach knowing I will get a line within a couple of months.

That was my expectation on the process of eventually holding DFW. Thank you for the confirmation.

I’m trying to fully comprehend the differences between Domestic and International by reading through the threads. From what I can gather, if you want to hold a line faster bid D over I, but what are the advantages of biding I? Can you switch between D and I?

yes you can in a mutual base exchange or vacancy award.

I'm gonna be in the April 5th class. The gf lives in DFW so shes pushing for me to go out there. I know it will take a solid 6 months to get it but does anyone have insight as to whether aircraft assignment and/or Domestic vs international status greatly changes your wait times? I'm expecting to be mid seniority within class being in my late 30's. I'm already typed on the bus so im assuming training would be a little easier but not at all opposed to a 737 if it helps me out.
Up until recently I had been just leaning towards 737 MIA but DFW is growing on me for cost of living reasons.

you’ll likely get stuck with LGA BUS which is over half the 4/5 class. D or I won’t affect your wait to get to DFW. They will send you to I regardless of you receiving Int training or not

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming the Bus is a better airframe to be on for DFW? I heard the 737 was more senior in DFW? Is that true?

How long between Indoc and aircraft training?

flyingpika 03-31-2023 06:48 AM

Just selected to flow. Does anyone know how long from flow selection to class date?

I had two ish months. If I recall correctly you should get an offer email from AA with class date and other details. Welcome aboard!

Depends where you are in the selection. Higher on the list MAY be two months, last few names likely closer to three.

DFW/320/FO/D is more junior than DFW/320/FO/I. If your goal is to get off reserve sooner than later, bid accordingly.

Hoping to get a class date soon… currently live in NY and have 320 type. Debating if I should bid 320/D for ease of training or 737/I for cool layovers if it’s available.. anyone have any insight?

737I is a tiny status, but very junior and overnights change month to month. For April it appears to be a wide variety but then other trips you’re doing islands turns for 4 days and overnighting in MIA every night. Efficient. Definitely more exotic than domestic Bus stuff. I wouldn’t worry about the training. I’d be more concerned about spending 6-8 hours in a 737 on the reg.

If you're on the Bus already, you need to stay on the Bus. Going the the 73 is not worth the few overnights here and there. The D/I stuff is eventually going away. Just bid 320s to LGA. You'll be driving to work, with the best seniority movement since LGA is always going to be junior, and the International stuff will get to you soon enough. Plus again, you'll still be comfortable in the "office" of a Bus. Congrats and welcome!

Anyone know the latest on how long to hold CLT?

Vacancy award should drop on Friday. My guess is before they finish OE, a new hire will awarded CLT.

anthony210 04-08-2023 05:22 AM

Any class drops yet for the April classes? Wondering how long it will take to hold LAX 737 or 320.

almost everything is gettable with your 1st available vacancy bid

Maxxter 04-08-2023 08:49 AM

So that would take roughly 3-6 months depending on when you start. If a vacancy bid closes while you're on your first week on property, you are in the best-case scenario for faster transfer. Bids are roughly every 3 months.

ohaiyo 04-08-2023 09:43 AM

I vs D at AA

I understand there are implications to choosing to become "I" qualified at certain airlines (JetBlue for example). Is the same true at AA? I'm trying to understand how that might impact my life going forward.

Beechnutz 04-08-2023 11:20 AM

So when does the next vacancy bid close?

Setspeed 04-08-2023 11:58 AM

Vacancies are typically every 3 months. Company only owes us 3/year but that's the norm.

Most likely June, results in July, for a December award. So bid statuses would be effective at the start of either October, November, or December.

Think that's right..?

Sike 04-08-2023 10:32 PM

Looks like new hires to LAX again, coming soon. Either that, or they shrunk the LAX 320 FO bid status by 35. CA bid status didn't change, so I'd expect the former.

ImSoSuss 04-09-2023 06:42 AM

The last vacancy bid had almost everybody hired through March getting the base they wanted. The 9 to 12 month wait to get to some of the more selective bases may be over with, at least for now.
