Thanks

The class drop was posted earlier. What was being posted as just dropped is the actual vacancy for the quarter.

Does anyone know which airframe typically goes most junior in each class?

737 unless it’s in a desirable base.

memphisflyer 06-15-2023 11:00 AM

Does the 737 operate a lot of shorter legs versus the A320? I assume it's base specific, but was just wondering overall if the 737 does more "regional" type flying.

No. They are both all over the map. The one exception is a small number of airbii are ETOPS and get to go to Hawaii. That being said there are a lot of airbii that are not EOW capable, while I believe all 737 are EOW. A quick glance makes me think transcons are airbus heavy.

this month I’ve done 1-1 transcon 2 days and 7 leg short hop 2 days on the bus

The 321 does 757 flying, and the 319 does 175 flying.

Quoted for Truth, and adding a little love for the CRJ.

This is the most accurate thing I may have ever seen posted here. Well done!

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!

I’m curious how quickly someone could get ORD based with AA and what aircraft are based at ORD. Also, is there a resource to see what aircraft are based at the various domiciles for the various airlines.

Thanks in advance!

https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/a...-aa-stats.html This doesn't have all the answers but show's where ORD fits in seniority wise at AAL.

July 12th drop

So at the age of 45 would a guy like me be on the fence for the 737 or the A320?

I’ve been watching the drops and the amount of 737s is very high compared to most of this year. I know the drops are assigned by age so would be hoping for the A320 if I go to American. Currently flying the yellow bus right now.

You should be able to get the airbus no problem. I’m 41 and got airbus, plus a handful of guys younger than me. No guarantees but…

Bids are a crap shoot. Recently a 23 year old got AB in class

Always a crap shoot. In my class the very last slot went to a 320. I think he was 25. It's been a while and at that time we still had 190s and they were in the drop.

Does anyone know which aircraft would get me based in DFW the fastest? I've heard one guy on the 320 waited 6 months, not sure if this is still true.

currently 737 is the faster option to get to Dfw. But not by a ton.

At this point it only takes 19 months to be awarded DFW captain……

I’m an April hire on the bus and got awarded DFW for the Dec bid.

Good to know! Which base would you recommend to a West Coast commuter to start out with? I will be commuting out of GEG, so I'm guessing anywhere but MIA would be a cheaper crash pad and transportation.

2 mainline direct flights a day to DFW and one per day to PHX are your only single leg commute options. PHX is 320 only but was attainable on the first vacancy bid for my recent class, DFW was not but will be easy in the second bid. You can reserve the jumpseat up to 8 days out, first come first served. Commuting on OAL is an option too but not as reliable and would offer a direct to LAX.

Not having a dog in this fight I promise......Has anyone in the recent classes come across many from the WOs? I mean is it quicker for those at WOs to get on with AA vs. sitting it out and waiting to flow? A friend who's been at Envoy for about 2 years now and trying to see where he sit's on the flow ladder? Thanks!

Only 3 flows in my class, 5 years at envoy. A lot of previous envoy PSA and piedmont hires maybe 8, but they all left for other carriers before stepping to AA

been here about a year, in a class of 35 we had 8 flows, mostly from Envoy, most were around 5 years, 2 were at 3 years but leveraged a sooner class date because of CJO's from other legacies. Rest were 8 military and then CA/FO's from Frontier, Spirit, JetBlue, Atlas, Avianca, and a few from Skywest. (there were no regional FO's in my class)

What is the time frame to get a PHX FO bid as a new hire? Is it possible to get PHX right away as a new hire? What plane would it most likely be?

Airbus is the only option for PHX. In my class, PHX wasn’t offered, but I was able to bid to PHX in the first Vacancy bid

Any insight on how they view FOs from ACMIs when hiring? Is the experience viewed similarly as FOs from LCCs?

Be sure to pick the Bus in indoc if your seniority can hold it or you could be waiting 1.5-2 years before you could see PHX 320( seat lock plus withheld) if you go 737 first.

Well, to go one step further - how do they see guys coming from the left-seat large major foreign carriers (Emirates/Qatar)?

Tons of newhires from Southwest, Spirit, JetBlue, Atlas, Cathay. Seen a few Emirates, FedEx, and United recently as well.

Honestly they seem to love the experience, and right now they need every warm body they can get.
