Well yes, that’s how it works. And next vacancy bid you’ll get PHX and will be senior to those guys.

Talking with a neighbor in scheduling. As time goes on, AA would like more and more be internationally qualified. Makes scheduling more flexible.

it’s incredibly stupid we have the setup we have now at all… I understand needing training AND currency in certain theaters but no other airline restricts guys from hoping the gulf to Cancun or going to the bahamas…

Expect to commute 4 to 5 months on the line before getting it. Sure there are exceptions but this is the case for the majority of people that I know. ORD is very senior and stagnant on the FO side.

Since ORD is senior o the FO side, is it possible to hold weekends off while on reserve there as an FO?

I'm at Spirit and was able to waive my guaranteed days off b/w reserve shifts to 1 and request weekends off. I understand leaving Spirit will result in losing some scheduling flexibility and QOL, but just curious if you can do this trick or something similar here at AA.

not really a "class drops" question huh?

Anyone know if, when offered a class date, you can defer to a later class or is that not an option?

There are vacancy awards every 3 months now (4 per year) and most seats in LGA and MIA are pretty easy to hold. Anyone should be able to hold MIA or LGA 737/320 on their first vacancy bid, which will likely be effective before you even finish training.

There is a large vacancy bid that should be awarded in the next 2 weeks, which is why things are strange right now. Was like this last summer before and after the big vacancy award as well. Lots of CLT and PHX, not much LGA and MIA.

Not sure I’d go that far. This last vacancy bid that just closed is effective March of 24. If someone is hired in October, they’d have to wait until December or January with an effective date of June (yes it could then be April or May instead, but can’t plan on that). That would be roughly 5-6 months on the line before they’d officially switch. However, someone wanting LGA or MIA could probably get it quickly via mutual base exchange.

Worst case scenario...possibly.

It would most certainly be April or May, and training (including IOE) will take at least 3 months. For others, it is much closer to 5 months Someone hired in the first class of October would not be finished with training until after the New Year. At that point, yes, they would likely spend Jan/Feb/Mar based somewhere else. That is absolutely the worst case scenario.

This is, of course, dependent on which aircraft they are assigned. If they are assigned to the wrong aircraft, it will be much worse. For instance, if they want to be in ORD but are assigned to the 320. Right now, even after the new hire seat lock is up, it looks like everyone is currently being withheld from any new awards. This can be up to 9 additional months with the new contract where you are stuck somewhere else because you can't be trained on the new airplane you bid.

I see they throw a token in here and there. Not a big need, relative to others. Just to say they participated.

9/27 Drop

I am hoping for something like this for my class drop. But I got a while yet due to military commitments. I am in the 29 November class.

That just isn’t true. There are people who are still waiting until December for the vacancy bid we had in July. No, it isn’t really common but it happens. Worst-case scenario is someone hired in October finishes training right around, or just after, the new year. Then, they get a June effective date, and they are in some other base for Jan-May. I’m not saying that’s likely but if we are setting the floor, that’s the floor.

Again, if someone gets a desirable base on the fleet that is in their desired base, they could easily do a mutual base exchange (LGA and MIA had ~25 each trying to actively leave last I checked) and they could easily be in LGA/MIA before they are out of training. Just depends how the cards play out on MBE.
