Default MIA Trips

I need someone on the inside! Does MIA have abundant 1-day and 2-day trips? Are there entire lines of "turns", and if so, do they take years to hold?

I've got 2 little guys at home, momma works full-time at home, we've previously lived in the Upper Keys, and I know all about the drive. We're interested to know if this lifestyle is available as a new-hire at AA in MIA. Thanks all.

From a quick search, it does look like MIA 737 has a solid amount of 1 & 2 day trips- probably the most of any bid status. Junior line holders will mostly be given 3 & 4 day trips, with the occasional 2 day trip. You probably won't see 2 & 1 day trips as the main part of your schedule until you're above 50% in base.

From February awards, the first line with only 2 day trips was 48% (Mar 2020 hire), the first day trip wasn't awarded until 46%, the first line with only day trips was 28% (Dec 2018 hire)

I live in the Upper Keys, Tavernier. I just finished OE on the 737 in MIA. As soon as I have some real world experience on reserve I should be able to give you the answers your looking for.

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you.

Congrats on hitting the line! We were just up the road near 101.

I was hired 2021, in about a year I was holding all 2 day lines. Most of them over the weekends. I see plenty of people with my “projected seniority” 2024 holding turns. MIA 737 definitely has a ton of 1-2 day trips.

That all said, that’s information without knowing the bidder’s preferences. So there may be people junior to those pilots who did not make 1 & 2 day trips their priority when bidding and maybe you can hold that sooner. No idea though.

How common are red eyes on MIA 737 trips? Heard it’s more common on the 320. Is that true?

I’m a MIA 737 new hire commuter. Is it possible to bid back to back 4-5 day trips to enable longer blocks of time off? I’m trying to minimize time spent commuting. Thank you

You technically can. Min RSV work blocks are usually 3-6 days. So you could do 4-6 on 1 off 4-6 on. Just put the waiver for single day off between RSV blocks. And just spend the night that 1 day. I’m on the 320 but I’m sure can do same, I have family visiting second half of Feb, so I started February doing 6 on 2 off 6 on to maximize days off end of the month. As for a Line, I’m not sure. But most people don’t like this 5 day trips so I’m sure you can put that as one of the first preferences when bidding and be able to get them. And likewise to throw in the waivers with it.

How is reserve in Miami? Expect to pump a lot of money in to hotels or can we expect to fly pretty much on all our reserve days saving on the hotel costs for commuters?
