Is it reasonable to be in San Diego when you are on short call?

Thanks

Depending on traffic and where in SAN, I’d say probably. We don’t have a defined report time but 3-4 hours to report to LAX is kind of an unspoken timeframe that’s within the realm of reason.

100% yes. Ive done it many times and know many others who have. When I did LAX base indoc as a new hire 2 years ago that question came up. The chief pilot said yes.

People do it. It’s matter of preference I suppose but my worst case scenario is getting called for an LAX day trip. The drive can be pretty brutal. On long call you can mitigate the risk of that by trying to fly out of SNA which is much easier to get to and from, and at a minimum generally avoid having to drive to LAX and back same day.

Definitely. Lots of people do it. I’ve done it many times ( I live 10 min from SAN). This cane up at my LAX domicile indoc a few years back. The chief pilot said it was fine.

When I was first hired I was LAX based and in Indoc the CP specifically used that as an example and said it wasn't advisable. But I'm sure it depends on traffic. Fortunately, our SC times are pretty ambiguous and not a firm call out time. If it were me, I wouldn't do it in probation but off probation I probably would.

Other than red-eyes mentioned here what kind of trips do people usually get there on the bus?
How long are the trips in days? How many sectors per day?
How long before you can get a line?

AMs/PMs

How long are the trips in days? 1/2/3/4/5 days.

How many sectors per day? Not sure what you mean?

How long before you can get a line? Looks like a 4/23 hire. Could change though

filler……….

Thanks,
By sectors I meant legs per day.
Some bases have up to 4-leg days.
